He did what he was ordered to do, realizing it was nonsense, but still. For me, as a Dutchman, I am always badly surprised by police in a City Hall and a Court House, in my country the three powers are separated. City Hall is the house of the Council, Court House that of Jurisdiction, and the Police Bureau of Law Enforcement. If one enters the territory of the other, you know something very bad is going on! In the US there are the citizens on one hand and the three powers cozy cooperating against them on the other hand. @@williamwalsh3779 I think you are right. I believe you made a pretty accurate explanation for their behavior. But here is the thing; that behavior is unacceptable! And all of this should be quite easy; they just need to act professionally then... But they didn't. They are not earning their salary and they are not justifying their employment. So they either need to be trained immediately or get fired if they lack empathy (after all they ARE working for/with the people!) or even the ability to understand simple social constructs and behavior. Auditors are there to expose incompetent people and create a possibility for the administration to get up to the minimum level. The Mayor is responsible for keeping it there (and hopefully be able to see the benefit of setting standards higher than the bare minimum). If the Mayor is incompetent, then the citizens need to replace him. Ultimately this is the responsibility of every citizen. The problem is that most people don't bother. Sean Paul Reyes does. The bare minimum should be no bias, no pre-judgment, no rudeness, knowledge of the constitution, the laws, rules, regulations, and policies that have an effect on their daily duties, and of course a service-minded, friendly, and accommodating attitude. And last but not least, an understanding that they are PUBLIC SERVANTS and that their work environment is not their property but a PUBLIC funded building. Someone should really audit the hiring criteria, the hiring process, and the training of new employees for all law enforcement and other governmental employees. I think that is where you will find the root cause for most of these problems.
@Facts-over-Feelings. Жыл бұрын
@williamwalsh3779 That's like seeing all teenagers as trouble makers and therefore treating them all the same. It's a ludicrous way to act. Instead of having the ego immediately, why not use those 2 ears that have been given to you for listening and then work out through sheer common sense if they're a troublemaker or not. @@RickMiddleton-1 one act facilitates the other. Do you think public would have disdain towards public servants like you, if you were cordial and transparent, or even just decent? If all public servants were welcoming attitude, positive, helpful, and just plain decent, do you really believe the public would act bad towards you? They wouldn't, because if you were positive and decent and friendly, you would receive that in return. Your horrible negative attitude displayed in your comment shows what type of person you are, which shouldn't be in public service. You cannot put out negative energy and expect positive energy in return. You put out positive energy, and you'll get that in return. As a disabled VET I appreciate LIA’s approach but auditors that are more caustic, once they are treated poorly by authorities, security guards, etc. are well within the right I swore to defend and they should not be looked down upon. That said, an auditor that attempts to provoke with abusive language and such, while within their rights most of the time, don’t do any good. I’m a second amendment activist (which is generally a 4th amendment issue if accosted). I go about my business peacefully but I will not be civil or cordial to those who would abuse my rights. Thankfully, while cops have shown up “because they were called” nine have violated my rights or even hinted at doing so. Perhaps because my first involvement was a letter to the local PD (who had been abusing open carriers) explaining their violations and laying out the laws, legal precedents, and potential for civil rights suits. The letter specifically listed six incidents complete with video and/or audio which established a “pattern of abuse” which is the legal requirement for punitive damages in a 42 USC 1983 suit. Sent to the Chief of Police, mayor and council, city attorney and manager, as well as all local media…. Their abuses stopped and subsequent activism (simply open carrying in lawful public places) showed that they had apparently learned.

Police want notarized complaints for two reasons: a) as a strong discouragement for ordinary citizens to file a complaint, and b) as a means of tracking down 'anonymous' complaints for retribution. The rule of thumb is pretty simple: unnecessary, intimidating, and illegal barriers to filing a complaint are universally rewarded by police departments, who then get to claim "We have very few complaints about our fine men & women in blue." or other such self-serving statements. It's a tired old refrain in city after city: no complaint forms readily available, the requirement to speak to an officer, the requirement for notarization or signature verification or to provide ID, no forms or policies available online, "we investigated ourselves and 8 months later found we did nothing wrong', etc, etc. The thin blue line exists is to protect and serve themselves first, and the citizens are a distant second place.
