A special treat for today:
Listen in as the Mayor of Fairview Texas kindly and clearly outlines WHY the town denied the Conditional Use Permit for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (aka the Mormon Church) at the Town Council Meeting on August 6, 2024.

All LDS temples are built where LDS members are. I don't understand what the problem is. This world has major problems and a building height is a problem? Texans are really hateful people sometimes. It's not about the building like they want to make sound like. I'm not LDS but putting rules on buildings heights not closed to airports or 'small neighborhoods', is out of place? So, the town doesn't want to grow and stay small for another 100 yrs like in the old West? With cowboys and horses? it's just ridiculous. How is it going to affect those who opposed? I personally think it's going to change your pathetic, sad looking town and put it on the map. Every town these temples are. The view has improved and not only that... The mortgage industry and the value of the homes in the area has increased helping the town to grow financially. Texas once again showing their stubborn backwards mentality.

Im current lds in regional South Australia 🇦🇺. I support the rights of the people to say no to this structure (despite my positive spiritual experiences in a temple) i dont think forcing it on people that dont want it is Christ-like. There is corruption coming from within the church which is prophesied. Also, look at the nemenhah records and chief midegah of the ojibwe nation and the birch bark scrolls. Even the indians have been ignored.

Perhaps any attack on the corporate real estate developing part of the church was warranted - though "attack" is a strong word. It wasn't the town threatening expensive lawsuits against the church, it was the other way around. The mayor in this recorded speech was spot on when he used the word arrogance to describe the attitude of the corporate church during this temple building approval stage. Arrogant and purposefully deceitful and intentionally deaf.

@garyj.carter3264 Obviously no one else is going to say magic words saying I hate the church so we cancel your project. Personal animus is shown in actions. Like how other projects are given approval or how other cities use zoning ordinances to keep the LDS church out. Super easy to prove. Obviously if a plan is dismissed on a technicality, it raises some eyebrows. But like I said, I think the city should be able to deny a plan. But the hate for the church is there, no doubt about it.
@garyj.carter3264

@@Darkone0899 we are not canceling the project, we are in fact ready to approve it. LDS has been a wonderful part of our community for many years. LDS Leadership out of SLC simply need to choose one of the designs that fit within the scope and scale of the RE1 zoning or consider relocating less than a mile west where our commercial zoning would allow what is proposed. Either compromise will be approved. To die on this hill is insanity.

@@maisies927 Most of them are not kind. I was born and raised Mormon and I moved a lot. Some will say "oh it's just a bad area that you lived in." Not true. The cult creates a fake sort of kindness but there is a deep rooted mean spirit that I have seen in many wards all over the country. Some members are sincere and kind but many are not. If you study cults you will learn this is a common trait which is caused by a deceptive spirit to get others to think it's a loving religion. I'm sorry you were treated horribly by them too. It's really very sad. And Utah is a harsh area. I grew up there. It's only gotten worse as I have gone back to visit.
