Lyles music was, .. I can say .. the most strong influence to my life , music and own piano-playing.. He even inspired me to buy me a disklavier. How *wonderful* sensitive is this piece of most beautiful music here right now.. It could be indeed .. from Lyle himself.. and brought some tears to my eyes.. :.) I hope, we all admirers will meet him again in heaven ..

Lyle Mays has been a part of my life and creative journey from the very first moment I discovered the PMG as a young man growing up in London,England. his deeply sensitive & emotional playing has helped me through good times and bad, also it has been an inspiration for me as a filmmaker.. Lyle paints the most beautiful pictures with his plying and I will be forever greatful to him for his incredible gift that he left the world... he will always live on..!!

Like you, I discovered PMG around the mid to late 70's. Saw them at Hammersmith Odeon, Royal Festival Hall and Shepherd's Bush Empire. Have been my No 1 band ever since. Not taking anything away from the other band members, it was Lyle, for me who took them off the planet. Also loved his jazz quartets and trios. Lyle's passing stopped me listening as I just couldn't take it until just recently and now I'm able to explore again what can only be described as an emotional, inspirational and out of this world experience and that is beside his technical ability that makes him the greatest keyboard player of all time. Glad he moved you so much too.

André Mehmari, cara que sensibilidade, sempre quis saber o que o mestre Lyle estava pensando e tentando nos dizer em seus arranjos e sua obra. Você conseguiu beber dessa fonte, fico feliz e se fecho os olhos sinto como se o próprio Lyle estivesse executando sua composição, tamanha sua identificação com ele e com a escolha harmônica que voce criou. Também não sabia que eras brasileira, o que me enche de muito orgulho, pois aos 66 anos resolvi, com muito esforço estudar teclado por influencia de nosso mestre querido. Vejo que a obra do Pat se manteve por causa de sua generosidade de entrega a musica. Gratidão, gratidão, gratidão por sua homenagem, pena que nessa vida não conseguirei aprender e tocar sua musica. Rsrrsrs, Forte abraço , Saúde e muita paz;

Music is the key that can unlock one's inner feeling(s) that reside in some cases, dormant in our souls till that combination of melodic genius meets the refined precision of a master such as Lyle. He has the ability to reach deep into our souls, and touch parts hitherto unknown. It's an awakening of spirit to be sure, what we choose to do with this gift of course is up to us. Appreciate, share, marvel at his use of time and space, how he shapes the very essence of each thought, and can transfer his gift to everyone. Some of us are more fortunate than others, when we can connect with him on a different plain, where he bridges that gulf of time and space, it is a true connection, that we are powerless to control, we revel in every moment, the cadence, the tenor, the timbre of each note can take us to another dimension. My heart and soul become one during this embrace, and the feeling is one of pure delight. Thank you Lyle, when you gear up, there truly is a disturbance in the force, and it is heavenly, sublime. Rest In Peace in God's grace, my friend, you are truly missed. Andre, thank you for sharing your gift with us, you are truly a wonderful soul. May god bless you always....

I had the most amazing privilege to have met such a virtuoso and humane indidual while I was an exchange foreign student at UWEC.... Approached him while he sat on the grass with holes in his blue jeans and asked him if he would be willing to do some arrangements for some of my composicions...In a matter of seconds he took me to one of the piano studios located within the music department and he created an incredible result....By the following Saturday he had ensambled an entire band and helped me to produce 4 recordings..... When I learned of his passing I immediately run to my basement and spent hours searching for his works...music arrangements for each instrument and I finally found them."..'72 arrangements by Lyle Mays...".......engraved in pencil...... Forever grateful 🙏 Victor Arellano

You really can call Pat. He will love you. But okay, Lyle was a friend of Jaco, Pat, and of so many great musicians, for sure. But your talent could serve this beautiful story. To think that Lyle Mays has vanished from our world on earth overwhelms my spirit and heart by a huge and infinite sadness, I only yesterday learnt this unbelievable news due to this time stopped and locked down on the entire world by this damned pandemic. How could it be possible ? that a musician like Lyle Mays disappears due to a bad disease, so gently, so discretely, joining the night of times for eternity. That man who created so marvelous musics and compositions, first with Pat Metheny Group and then by himself. Lyle had an incredible pianist touch, moving and sensitive, that made an incomparable enlightening of the PMG creations all over the world, with so nice lyricism, the sense of melodies, subtle rhythms and fluent harmonies all through the keyboard, impressionist and impressive as influenced by French composers like Debussy, Ravel, Fauré...So many solos that bring you at the edge of life through deep emotions...Thank you Mr Mehmari, this is so perfect to listen to you playing on that wonderful piano with such beautiful sound, with a so nice tribute to Lyle, whereas your composition allows to make Lyle living again among us, Thank you so much for his memory on behalf of all musicians and keyboard players ;-)
