This song and title song of Utawarerumono: Istuwari no Kamen give me the same feeling. When I lived in Japan, my family went skiing every winter. You know, skiing facility needs be located on the mountain, so we had to go to country side where there is literally nothing. As a child, I was always looking outside of car window. What I see is a mountain covered with thick snow, and there are some little villages where it seems to be no one living. I saw rice field, degraded wooden cottage, randomly placed statue(Ojizo Sama), and deserted Shinto shrine. Whenever I listen to those two song, I recall those scenery in my mind and feel nostalgia and solitude.

This song is really amazing and calming!! I originally came across it as part of one of those 2hr "anime" piano compilations. I'd really like to hear what the rest of the OST sounds like, but Im wondering if maybe this is an unofficial mix? When I search "Touhou - Mountain of Faith" I find the song title as track 07. Akutagawa Ryuunosuke's "Kappa" ~ Candid Friend", except no "How to spend Winter" But... when I put in the whole thing "Touhou - Mountain of Faith - 07. Akutagawa Ryuunosuke's "Kappa" ~ Candid Friend" I get a very retro-ish video game song, not even in the same melody as the one in this video. What am I doing wong? Or was my initial concern right? That this is an unofficial one shot mix? Even if this is the case, what song is it based off cause it sounds nothing like "Akutagawa Ryuunosuke's "Kappa" ~ Candid Friend" @_@ I want more!! ^_^

Touhou, short for Touhou Project is a bullet hell video game series made by ZUN in Japan. It is very well known for its music and huge cast of characters. You will find an insane amount of remixes, orchestrations, covers, etc. on a dizzying array of songs from the games. I found that Touhou has one of the most creative and passionate fan bases around, and I seriously recommend checking it out, even if it is just the music. I personally came across Touhou from music as well, and once you dive in, there is no going back. Unfortunately, I cannot tell you where "How to Spend Winter" comes from. "Touhou - Mountain of Faith" is the 10th game in the series, which is probably why you haven't found it. Chances are, this is a one-shot mix, and you will find plenty of them. I said this before, but there is a practically unending amount of remixes of these songs with every genre you can think of, from retro-wave to orchestra, to folk-rock and electronic. Some mixes have vocals, and there are entire groups dedicated to making music from the original tracks. Shibayan Records and Akatsuki Records are perfect examples, and there is also the Active NEETS Orchestra. I'm sorry I could not tell you where to find the tune for this song, but I hope I have clarified some things for you, and hopefully shown you a whole area of amazing music to listen to.

I'm not sure about you, but for me, the melody of candid friend and this piece (how to spend winter) sound almost identical. It is after all a remix of that song. It's just the style and feeling of the piece that sounds very different. One's a video game boss theme and the other's a relaxing piano piece.
