Correct mate these engines run at 98-102 deg Celsius, the trans oil is also really hot , a neat trick I do is intercept the thick black wire on cooling fan motor and run a jumper to my own electronic thermostat , I switch my fans on at 78 deg C and back off at 74 c , also fit a separate cooler for the auto, it now should last forever . So much under bonnet heat destroys rubber and electrical components.

You guys are the best! Got my TCM back from you and just reinstalled today (this vid helped!) and transmission is back working! Thank you so much! For those researching similar issues and how to fix, I had check engine and AT lights on, only a U0101 code, hard shifting into Drive and Reverse, car was stuck in one gear (apparently 3rd) limp mode, was able to safely drive the 30 miles home from work in limp mode keeping it under ~65mph, my 2011 Mazda 3 had only 96k miles when it failed on me 2 weeks ago as I went to leave work, no early warning signs, everything was fine on my way to work, suddenly did not work when I went to leave. Searched a bit, found you guys, waited for a warm enough day to remove the battery and TCM, then sent it in to UPFIX, had it back a week later, and good to go! UpFix and comin through like champions! Keep up the great work, guys!

My 2007 Mazda3 tcm failed last year. Took it to dealer and they quoted me around $1500 to fix. They later called me while they still had my car and said it was still covered under P warranty? My car at this point had about 107k miles on it. They ended up replacing it for free but told me that the motor mount right above it was worn out & damaged & when it is, it can cause the tcm to get damaged due to hitting it? I asked if they could place the module in a different location but they said it would void any warranty & was specified to go in the location it is. Given I didn’t have to pay for it I didn’t push it. I did have them replace then motor mount above tcm since they were already in there. Never the less they charged a lot for that but I still saved money on the tcm. When I asked what warranty it fell under they just said p warranty, I didn’t question it further in case they reversed their decision lol but until this day I am not sure what they meant. Maybe powertrain warranty?

What about the 2004 Mazda 3? Is the TCM located in a different place? Did exactly what you said in this video, and my TCM is not in that location. I've read many different things about it on Google, such as the 2004 Mazda 3 doesn't have a standalone TCM. It says that it's integrated into the PCM. I've also read to check behind the passenger side kick panel, above the ECU? I'm very confused now because I cannot seem to find its location, and all I'm finding online is conflicting information.

The only reason to relocate the TCU is because the transmission gets hot and original location of the TCU is on top of the transmission. The TCU will not heat up.

I just replaced my TCM. Bought a brand new one from Mazda was having all the same symptoms with 06 Mazda 3 . 2.3 . After about two hours of driving the car kicked into limp mode and the check engine light along with AT was on again I could have drove off the road but I didn't. Instead I took to my uncle's machine and he ran the codes he knew that # of the code right away. Long story short I had to replace my Speed sensor on the transmission... nothing was wrong with my TCM I bought.. but I have the new one in there anyways. But yeah if your having this issue have your Mazda codes check 1st. ..

@@upfixauto I live in Turkey. My vehicle's AT light came on 2 months ago. When we looked with the obd2 device, we saw the p0715 error code. The master said that this was caused by the speed sensor. Even though it was changed 3 times, there was no improvement. I learned from the internet that TCM can cause this problem. But unfortunately I couldn't find this part in the car. Another authorized Mazda service said that the turbine had to be replaced without checking anything in the car and that it was very expensive. Unfortunately, repairmen in Turkey always prefer the easiest and most costly methods. There are also problems with gear shifting and I have read that these problems can be solved by resetting the tcm. What do you think I should do? By the way, thank you for your interest.

I know this video is old, but our 2008 Mazda 3 basically bucks in 5th gear with a loud bang, then revs the engine like it is not in gear, then just fixes itself at the AT light flashes on the off. Scares the shit out of us. Would that be a TCM issue? I do have check engine light on due to vacuum leak, so I am not sure if it is related to that. The AT light does not stay on. Any ideas?

Dude you just described the exact same issue I got with mine (2010 mazda3 S Sport 2.5L). It happens after some 10 minutes of driving, sometimes it’s really loud and scary! Today I did a drain and fill of the AT fluid (also changed the filter) but the issue is still there. We connected the OBD scanner and it gave us the code U0101 which by looking thru the internet it’s got something to do with the TCM or wires, idk. I will keep investigating and if I find a solution, I’ll let you know.

Hello. I need serious help. My car has problems similar to the ones mentioned in the video. I'm using a 2011 mazda 3 BL. The car shakes a lot when shifting from 3rd to 4th gear. RPM spikes momentarily and the vehicle shakes. Sometimes when I shift the gear to R, the car does not move. The gear can shift into R, but the vehicle does not move. The mechanics suggest a complete transmission swap, but I would like to try everything before this final solution. Do you think the problem could be TCM related?

I was just given a second mazda3 (2007 2.3 N/A) because the transmission is having issues even after the tcm refurbish. Still shifts hard but I have a feeling it’s the wiring. I’m having trouble trying to source a harness and what led me to believe that it is the harness is that the battery keeps dying after being fully charged and plugged back into the car. Would love to hear advice or get a good link to source the harness.

I have a 2013 3 I just bought. There’s no trouble lights on. I just happen to use Bouncie and switched it over on this trade and it kicked code P0882. Other than the car being slightly sluggish compared to other Mazda 3s I’ve owned In the past, it doesn’t seem to drive like it’s having major issues. Is this normal? The dealership passed it off as because it’s “skyactive it drives like that to save fuel” 🙄 It also has a cracked transmission case they didn’t mention either but my mechanic said it’s fine for now. However they didn’t catch the tcm code either, is it worth sending in to repair it? And do u think it will fix the code and drive better?

@245artist
@245artist 3 жыл бұрын
Some part numbers are interchangeable based on the engine displacement and when the TCM was manufactured. The P0763 code does indeed correlate to the TCM. If the symptoms improve and the code doesn’t disappear, a scanner or hard battery reset should clear the code. If there still is a hard shift then that would be a hard code that won’t clear until the issue has been resolved. When you receive the TCM back the AT light and associated codes should clear up. If not, someone will get in touch with you to assist you further from UpFix to get it resolved.

The Mazda 5 2006 doesn't have a TCM but rather the ECU that controls both the ECU and transmission. If the mechanic scanned for codes and it points to the speedo sensor it's very likely that it'll need to be replaced. That's another common failure point on these Mazda's which also plagues the newer years that we support for both Mazda 3 & 5. 2007-2014

@upfixauto

That is a really good question. These computers were designed to fail after getting over 75k miles. By mounting it to the brake lines the vibrations are soften. That is the bulletin recommendation.
@upfixauto
@upfixauto 3 жыл бұрын
TCM failures occur not because of vibrations but from being mounted to the TCM which causes them to overheat. Mounting them to the brake lines prevent overheating of the internal circuit components, which improves on a major design flaw. Your response was correct in that if anything the vibrations are more dampened since brake lines don't have that many moving parts like a transmission which has many moving internal parts

@@upfixauto What do you mean designed to fail after 75K. No electronics can last a lifetime in a hot/cold environment. If the TCM wasmounted on the gearbox, then it may have a purpose in relation to cooling. If TCM gets hotter than Trans, TCM will cool down. If TCM is mounted loosely, it may not get enough cooling alone (free standing, aircool only).

I have a mazda 3 2007. I have no AT lights on, none of the error codes show up on my obd scanner. Yet i have this issue where the drive light in the dash that shows which gear the car is currently in go off and on at times. This issue only affects drive and none of the other gears. When the drive light is on and not going on and off, all gears perfectly shift and the car runs really smoothly. Is this still the tcm or some other transmission related issue.
@upfixauto
@upfixauto Жыл бұрын
If the drive is affected when the gear shift indicator light is intermittent, then it sounds like it could be a physical issue, not just an electrical one. It would be good to verify if your OBDII scan tool is capable of reading TCM codes. If it is, then it's possible for the TCM to be at fault since they're commonly known to fail as a result of manufacturing defects. We can do a bench test and see if there are any issues with the TCM on our test bench, and rest assured, proceed with repairs after diagnostics.
@thedork7481

@@upfixauto can you elaborate a bit more about the physical issue part. Do you think it could have something to do with the transmission linkage cable, sensors or the shifter itself? I'm really puzzled as the car runs smoothly whenever the drive light isn't going crazy blinking.

@upfixauto
@upfixauto 2 жыл бұрын
We support the code P2709 which is also for solenoid F but the electrical part of it. P2708 refers to the actual solenoid itself. If the TCM hasn’t been rebuilt yet we would highly recommend starting there since its most likely the TCM itself. Other possible culprits are a faulty solenoid or dirty transmission fluid. Replacing the TCM with another used one may actually make it worse especially if it’s the wrong part number or not rebuilt yet. We recommend to replace your TCM unit or you can send your part for repair to UpFix.com www.upfix.com/product/tcm-mazda-3-2006-2014-transmission-control-module-repair-tcm-tcu/

Ok these are the issues I am having with my 2006 Mazda 3 2.0L 1. Check engine light and AT light on 2. The car shifts into 1 and 2 gear like it doesn't even there. 3. Once in third gear it gives high rpms then hard shifts 4. Goes into "limp mode" 5. Sometimes I can't go in reverse. 6. Manual transmission gear options don't display 7. The engine gets real loud as if it is whining/grinding. 8. If driving and I stop at the stop sign or stop light the car while not kick back into gear when taking foot off brake and applying gas. I would have to put it in park, turn the car off. And once the car is restarted it will work just fine for about a few minutes then the same problems occur. 9. Put the OBD reader into the car and the codes given are P0455, P0771, P0741, and P2187. 10. Now if I clear the codes, the engine goes a lot quieter and all gears start to work to include the manual transmission gear options start to display and become active again. But at this point I don't know if I should be changing my solenoids, fluid, and filters or what. So I'm lost. Also I just purchased the car from a friend and not sure of the maintenance upkeep but I got the vehicle at 230,000 miles.

If your Mazda 3 or 5 does not have the external TCM. Then first have dark or dirty transmission fluid drained. I recommend replacing it with fresh fluid and a new filter. Check fuses, back probe wiring, plugs, and pins. Make sure they are free from debris, dirt, grease/oil. Check your speed sensor and your oil pressure switch to the transmission as well. Please check your battery cables and grounds, try the hard battery reset (guide attached) with both negative and positive terminals constantly touching for 30-40min and the battery removed. Once you have completed the above steps, re-scan the car and follow the codes. If he has the same issue then the PCM may need to be replaced. forum.upfix.com/tcm/tcm-troubleshooting/

@upfixauto
@upfixauto 3 жыл бұрын
The part that you are sending for repair, is it original to your vehicle? If it is then it is already programmed to your vehicle. If the part ia NOT original, then check the part number that is on the original and make sure it matches the part number on your replacement module. If part number are NOT same then most likely it will not work for you. Also if part is NOT same then we CAN'T program it to your vehicle because internal components of the part is different and it will never program tonyour vehicle. Only send us your original TCM unit for repair.

@245artist
@245artist 3 жыл бұрын
It sounds like a TCM failure honestly. You can try a hard battery reset procedure and see if that helps, however if you replaced it with another used TCM that would most likely be the cause of the problem. The first four characters of the part number should be identical and you should only install a refurbished or new TCM in place of your bad one. If you simply swap it for another used TCM, it may not fix your issue especially with that code provided.

I'm still having issues with the TCM a mechanic took it out but couldn't get a replacement so he put it back in ( this cost me $180) so at least I can use the car, amazingly it started to work again for a while, and now it's not working again. Does anyone know anyone in Brisbane who actually knows how to fix these TCM problems? Somewhere I read that the TCM is supposed to last for the life of the car, and perhaps many are being replaced when they don't have to be. I don't know, I would just like the problem fixed, it's just very friggin annoying.
