This is all well and good, but what if your Mazda was before SD cards were used and the system is still using the DVDs? How can you update the navigation then?

All Mazdas came with 3 year free map updates from new; some of the new models come with 5 years free map updates.

Is it possible in future to bypass all the Euro maps and just update the UK maps? as it took ages and I'm never likely to be driving abroad.

Had I known that the map updates were going to be the same disappointing (unintuitive) ones, I would have passed on it. It’s not worth 84 Euros ($114 Canadian)/year. Never again Mazda.

That's a shame that you were not happy. I suppose if you use maps a lot then it is worth having the latest up to date information but if not I can see why you may not think it is worth the investment.

That's just the way it is done and with all Mazdas in the UK you get 3 years free map updates from date of registration.

Paying ~$400 US for the navigation SD card is a total scam. Honestly I can't believe Mazda does not just offer it standard with all vehicles. With all of the positive momentum Mazda has right now, continuing to rip-off Mazda owners for the SD card seems petty. The Mazda navigation system will never compete with CarPlay apps - paying money to buy/maintain an inferior product makes no sense. The SD cards should be free/standard as should updates. The only real advantage to the SD card is to use it with the HUD for speed limits. That's it. Mazda should be better than this.

All our new UK spec cars now come with sat nav as standard. If you do need to replace the SD card it is around £500. Map updates in the UK are free for the first 3 or 5 years (depending on model) from registration.

Hi Thanks. I recently bought my 2012 Cx5 (used). Tom Tom was happy to sell me map and camera updates but 2.5 months later their email support has not yet come up with a solution why my updates will not load to my SD card. The current TomTom home and GPS positioning updates loaded, but not the $130 odd of updates I have paid for. There is no access to live support from TomTom here in Australia. New or second hand, I will think twice about buying a Mazda. Not dissing Mazda, but I need to use my GPS slot, and Mazda needs to move to Garmin. I have found Garmin support to be much better,whilst even Navman offers live contact support.

That's a shame. In the UK it is a Mazda system not TomTom. Mazda used to use them years ago in the UK for some of their sat nav systems.

Hey, I had the same issue. I'm pretty sure it's because the software doesn't work on Windows 7. Several people have posted about this issue online. What I did instead was I bought a new SD navigation card from a site called Navi-World. It cost me $67 CAD. So we'll see how well it works.

the only problem i have is i have ordered a top of range mazda 2 that should have beginning of December 2022 to be told NO mazda 2 in the uk will have sat nav you will have to use the one from your phone. why have they taken built in sat nav away :(

Hi Chris, what county are you in? The Mazda 2 in the UK still has sat nav. You do have to use your phone for the New Mazda 2 Hybrid.

Did mine after receiving the E mail from Mazda no problems after I found out where the Sd card was located . It was a bit tricky to reinsert the card back into the car though on my Mazda 3

You can, though it must be paid. For example all of Mazda’s newer cars >2015ish like yours got/get 3 years of compliments updatesafter about 50miles or so is reached in the car. Updating is the same process as the video(I believe your SD card slot location is by your USB ports in front of the shifter), though it’s $85 for 1 update or $135 for three years of updates from Mazda if I remember correctly. I’m the second owner of a ‘16 Miata, but I’m gonna have to buy a map update when I decide it’s necessary haha. I’m installing Apple CarPlay today though, so it’s no rush :) Amazon/EBay/Bestbuy has various 3rd party sellers that’ll sell an updated map, just keep in mind those are single-use and can’t be updated(if going this route, verify the date of the map update and compare to what Mazda deems as most recent date as well). If however your car never had Nav to begin with, the 3rd party cards may be eligible for the 3yr complimentary Mazda updates. I believe mazda keeps track of the SD cards by automatic VIN registration, so a car hat never had nav can get the 3 years complimentary updates from any new card, otherwise a car with existing Nav must go through a paid update or purchase an SD card from either Mazda or a 3rd party seller
