This is fascinating - I’ve been using regenerative braking on my 2008 Prius Tspirit as part of my hypermiling repertoire for years! Last year summer, I managed 69.4 mpg out of a tankful )45 litres) - the vehicle is actually rated to 65.0 mpg 😊. The Prius doesn’t have paddles to increase the regeneration levels - but I exploit what it has - and sensible braking also invokes regeneration. One more thing; The throttle pedal has an angle that invokes freewheeling when going down a shallow incline - or utilising the kinetic momentum of the vehicle - to travel without using any energy, petrol or electricity. Not a lot of people know about that! The MX-30 will be my next (and final) car - it’s perfect for me! 😊

Had a test drive in an MX today the regen didn't seem to work reason given was the battery was in a high state of charge 80% . Incorrect info given I used the wrong paddle to engage regen it is the left paddle used it today on 87% charge.

The highest up setting is for uphill driving, and the highest down setting is downhill driving.

That is precisely how NOT to use regen brakes ! Coasting down hill uses less energy than having to accelerate back up to speed at the bottom of the hill after basically using friction to slow down on the descent. Regen is best used as braking in stop/go city situations.
