Great job guys, Im about to put my 2001 626 2.0 FS eng & trans back in. Its got an automatic, took it & engine out at same time but think its easier to put trans in then engine jut because all the engine mounts except the passenger side which you improvised on are connected to the trans. Should be much easier that way especially as Ill then have alot of room to get at the rear engine mount which Mazda or Ford should I say worked hard to make it the most inaccessible and hardest multi piece eng mount ever.

Keaton Christensen My husband exchanged motor for 2002 mazda protege and there is a black n yellow wire that is connected to the negative port of the battery and it splits to make ground(i guess). can you tell me where it should be supposed bolt/screwd to. He doesn't remember. Thanks.
@KeatonChristensen8 жыл бұрын
+Andrea Santiago From what I can remember that is the body ground, it should bolt nearby to the body itself. I can check up on that tomorrow, feel free to Personal message me and I can send you a picture of where mine bolts to.

pretty handy video for a first timer. You need to put that claw hammer away and get a 3lb sledge, a ball peen and a pry bar set. Lol Also removal of the alternator, ac lines are not necessary. Ac & power steering can be hung with wire and alternator can stay attached. Removal of the exhaust and intake manifold is optional as is the tie rods. The knuckles will pivot just enough with the struts unbolted to pop them out. The jack shaft can also stay on the engine.
@KeatonChristensen8 жыл бұрын
Yes I know, I was replacing all of those parts however, putting them on the new engine. Haha but I do have more tools now trust me.
@doomsayer5598 жыл бұрын
haha you never stop buying them. I'm pulling the the fs out of my '00 626 currently. unfortunately it has an atx that I'm swapping over to mtx. It's a bit harder to get that pig out.

Where did you get you header ?
@cheekanuble9 жыл бұрын
hey dude, loved the video! I have a protege myself and got me a lifter noise so I was thinking of swapping it out. Is the 2l in my car a different version fs from yours? I have 2003 lx model... By the way, do you absolutely have to remove the intake manifold to remove the engine? And do want the headers..
@KeatonChristensen9 жыл бұрын
Removing the intake manifold isn't necessary, however it makes the job much easier when lifting the engine out. The 2003 lx should have the same FS-DE engine, so it will be the same procedure. Possibly some different wires on t but same general procedure overall.
@cheekanuble9 жыл бұрын
cool! thats what I was thinking I dont have access to a garage as big as yours so I wanna keep the bolts and parts laying around to a minimum so I can hopefuly put it back together. good videos man I laughed a couple times

@KeatonChristensen8 жыл бұрын
+Kensho Designs Unfortunately I replaced my valve guide seals without making a video because I was on a quick time schedule, however I can write you up a detailed procedure on how to do the job if you would like. There are some tools I can recommend to make the job MUCH easier

This might seem a bit odd. But would it be possible to swap in a 3.4 gm engine out of a Grand am GT from the 2000's. And still keep it fwd? Lol. Thanks.
@KeatonChristensen8 жыл бұрын
+XDZGamer NVP (HARDCOREWOLF 13) oh man i dont know why youd wanna go that route, but anything is possible. The problem is that engine doesnt have the same mounting points as the FS-DE engine, so fabrication is necessary along with rewiring and fitting. In my opinion, thatd be a lot of work for a little of payout. But if youre wanting to do it, best of luck to you brother!

you are so rough with your engine and bolts lol. Befor you start just spray some penetration oil on engine mount bolts beforehand so by the time you get to them they are ready for a breaker bar. Then use gun lol.

hey I have a 2001 mazda protégé mp3 and it sounds like a rod knocking but im not sure if its that or the valves. it gets gradually louder as I hit the throttle. and speeds up. just thought id get another opinion before I purchase a new motor
@KeatonChristensen8 жыл бұрын
try to figure out where the noise is coming from- hold a broomstick handle against the valvecover and see if the noise is more amplified compared to holding it down on the cast block. If its uptop take off the cover and check your cams for even wear and all lifters are up pushed against the cam lobes.

I have a 2001 Mazda Protege ES with the FS motor and a 2001 Mazda MPV. The MPV has a Ford Duratec 2.5L V6 (160 HP) not an FS engine. Even then it is still under powered. I can't imagine it with the 2L FS. BTW, why did you take off the valve cover so early in the disassembly? Just adds a big risk for getting junk in the cylinders or worse. The real fun begins at re-installation. How did you keep track of all of that hardware?
@KeatonChristensen5 жыл бұрын
This was a while ago, I was replacing alot of the components of the engine so I went ahead and removed most parts to make it easy on myself. I should've clarified the parts that weren't necessary for removal, but I haven't seen any other instructional videos on it so I left it up just for other people. But once you remove the engine and transmission a couple of times you remember where it all is, this is a super simple car, it gets easy to remember the parts/locations. Thanks for the comment!

good job.I looking for some ecu(engine computer)do you have any idea.this is the id# FP85 FP8518881H E2T88973HA or any idea to found it
@KeatonChristensen6 жыл бұрын
Hector Perez for this specific car they are very hard to find , mainly only found on forums. But the MSP (Mazda speed protege)ecu from 2002-2005 is transferrable to a degree. Direct plug and play, alot easier to find, but it does expect a turbo to be in the system so a few things will be quirky like fuel/air ratio and timing. But it will run

Is removing the trans mandatory? And if it isn't you would only need to remove the passenger side axle right?
@KeatonChristensen7 жыл бұрын
Austin Flores transmission removal is not necessary, however it makes it much easier for the removal without the entire drivetrain is very difficult because of the small clearances on each side. I would recommend removal of the entire thing. If you don't want to though, just the passenger axle bearing carrier needs to be dislocated from the engine block
@philiphaggard28275 жыл бұрын
I've never removed the transmission.... I do not think it's very hard to get it in and out with it in there.

Can I fit a 2jz block for this car's bay?
@KeatonChristensen8 жыл бұрын
+Saulo Montenegro you will hzve to cut, gut, and re weld a tranny/driveshaft tunnel down the middle of the car. the engine bay size will fit the 2j though. This is however ALOT of work and you will need to weld new body stabilization throughout. There are forums showing how to do this on a Honda, which is a similar application considering the amount of work needed.

@christiansotterley38057 жыл бұрын
Yeah I just over hauled my protege. When you wack the tie rod hit it on the steering knuckle like you did and not on the threads unless you plan on buying new ones lol
@christiansotterley38057 жыл бұрын
I almost cried when u hit the strut mounting bolts like that those are expensive lol
@KeatonChristensen7 жыл бұрын
Christian Satterlee you're supposed to hit the housing in which the tie rod goes through (hub). But that didn't work and started deforming the housing, so instead you thread the nut until it is flush with the threading and hit that. But I did replace the tie rod anyway since the boot was ripped.
@KeatonChristensen7 жыл бұрын
Christian Satterlee they're $2 each haha replaced those too. I replaced almost everything because it was all rusted or stripped
