I damn near cried tears of happiness over a regular season game in November. Thank you mark pope, I feel like UK basketball is back. I have so much confidence now because this game was not a fluke. His halftime talk. He asked them what they thought the problem was. Its always easier for someone to change something if its their idea instead of someone telling them what they need to do. Then he kept it simple, two things we need to do to turn this around: transition D like the team said and ball screen defense. Then he built them up and gave them belief, they came out playing with passion and didnt quit. And he did all that in what maybe two minutes? Absolute master class. And then coaching the Flagg iso and spin before it happened so Oweh was right there. They will lose some games, but it won't be because they are doing their own thing, not working hard enough, aren't prepared or have been outcoached...which is all a breath of fresh air. I just can't help after watching this...can you imagine Reed playing in this system with this team? By God that dude would own the state.

Just quit. College basketball is so unpredictable in just one game. I love pope but cal won us a ton of games and a chip. Went to multiple final fours. Had a 38-0 season going. Lost. But still crazy season. Man he had some great highs and some lows for sure. But cal put kentucly basketball back on the map. Uk was fading bad until calipari came to uk. The last years of tubby and the one year of gillespie was a joke. Nobody wanted to play for kentucky after that. Then cal brought us back from the grave. Dont dish cal. He was who we needed at the time. Name one coach that wins as many games as he did during his tenure. Only 3 coaches has multiple rings in the last 30 20 years. And only 7 coaches have led their team to multiple national championships. Wins or losses and cal is one of them. He went to 2 chips. And a bunch of final fours. Pope is great. But lets hold off on him being a hofer just yet. Cal is a shoe in for the hof.

@@wakingforbacon6439 I appreciate what Cal did here. I will be at the arkansas game in february and hes introduced I will stand and cheer. But people greatly exaggerate how bad off we were when Cal took over. “no one wanted to play for us”. That was not the case. Gillispie left Cal a roster with Patrick Patterson, Darius Miller, Deandre Liggins and had Daniel Orton committed to play for UK, not Billy Gillispie, but UK. Compare that to what Cal left Mark Pope with. Or the disaster that Rick Pitino took over. Tubby also had Draymond greene committed when he left and gillispie took over with Jodie Meeks, Ramel Bradley, Joe Crawford and Derrick Jasper on the roster. As long as the fans remain invested players will always want to come to Kentucky. It’s never been any different in my lifetime.

@danielward8645 dude qe had a fricken absolute disaster of a season with Gillespie. Hence why he lasted one year. And don't tell me any other coach would have gotten 5 first round draft picks to come and play for kentucky. No other coach would have recruited the talent that kentucky has since cal got there. And older players is nice to have. But don't act like every team is not aiming for these great freshmen. Every team does. More kentucky players in the nba than any other school and it's not even close. And yes kentucky was in a low place when cal got there. And brought a top recruiting class with him. Orton didn't make a difference really. With or without him made no difference. He wasn't no game changer. Miller was the only one that really contributed to the roster in a meaningful way. Liggins some but not really. Don't downplay what cal done for uk. He definitely put us back on the map. We hadn't been to a final four since 1998 when cal took over. And that's only because he had a rick pitino team. And transferring back then was almost impossible without losing eligibility.

You may be right but that’s why freshman can’t be trusted fully. They aren’t conditioned and you saw with Cooper when the game is on the line, they drop the ball a lot of the time. I also don’t think Jaxon has 1 pt ever again.

Honestly the game could have gone either way. maluach came back in the game and looked fine and still got cooked by Andew Carr. Duke was visibly fatigued at that point however. But i have no problem admitting it could have went either way. Doesn’t take away the win or the good feeling. Duke is obviously a title contender and so are we.
