I just bought an MBS board yesterday. Been skateboarding for over 10 years now. I can definitely say the learning curve does not compare. I landed like 10 tricks already on this thing. About to take it to a park today.

@@mbsmountainboards Pretty good I'd say. I don't have everything recorded. But I did a rock to fakie, ollie, nose grab, indy grab, chicken salad grab, double grab, drop in, and a 180 ollie. On mini ramps and medium sized. I would like to attempt a vert ramp.

I'm so glad you have this video! I just got my first one from you guys and it's really nice just so much bigger than the skateboard that I was really good on when I was younger... I want to try to go on the trails near my house with my siberian husky , I'm still not so sure whether I should take her or not, I need to get used to being on it myself, so I'm so glad you have this video cuz I really had no clue how to start!!!

I used to ride my bike with two dogs running on leashes at once. From what I know about combining dogs and sports, I guess you first need to get really used to the mountainboard. And then maybe try it on a small hill with your dog to see if it's compatible. Some dogs tend to run intentionally in front of you in the worst possible time, or bite the wheels, or whatever they want.

The boys might want to add to or comment on this, but I have found that rotating your shoulders and hips in the direction of the turn and looking into the turn with your head enables you to carve tighter and more controlled turns. The upper-body rotation is transmitted to the board through the knees, and leverage to the board is increased the deeper your knees are bent. Makes sense, doesn't it? Look where you want to go, not where you are going, rotate your shoulders and hips in that direction, and transmit that rotational force through your knees. The way this feels when you're on the board is that you are driving turns in the direction of your toes with your knees, and you drive the turns in the direction of your heels with your butt. See if this helps you think about what you are doing and how it feels while you are doing it.

One of the problems I've had to solve is how to execute a J-turn to stop when you don't have enough real estate to do it. The experts will tell you to do a skid-turn by squatting down, grabbing the board with your rear or uphill hand, and skidding the rear wheels while steading yourself with your gloved downhill hand on the ground. If that sounds risky (especially on pavement), there is an intermediate step: the hop-turn. If you will watch the video (link below), you will see these riders routinely executing two types of hop-turns with ease. There is the front wheel hop-turn that keeps the rear wheels in contact with the ground, and there is the rear hop-turn in which the rear wheels may leave the ground or they may just be unweighted enough to skid across the ground. Either way the radius of the turn is tightened. You will also note in a close examination of the video that a succession of hop-turns may be done, each one tightening the radius of the turn or creating a track that is a series of hop-turn S-turns. I got this old Mongoose with some wear on it. 39" long board, super wide standard kingpin trucks bolted onto the nose and tail. Thick Velcro straps bolted to the deck. The baseplate pivot cup is chipped on one truck. Hoping I could swap out the baseplate with another regular truck. No idea how old the board is, or if the original quality level for it's time

at some point for sure you will want to remove the brake...especially for freestyle. But if you are hitting single tack trails then throw it back on.

A good pair of leather work gloves at about $15-$20 are Kinco out of Oregon, the best place I’ve found for the largest selection is at Coastal Farm stores. I bet they had fifty different models of Kinco gloves, I bought two pair of their insulated Ski gloves at about $35 can’t be beat, if you’ve a mitten guy check out their ski mitten. Kinco gives you NixWax to condition the gloves before use, just preheat the oven to Low, place gloves in oven for two minutes, remove gloves and put them on, squeeze entire package of NixWax into palm and rub content into gloves especially in the seams, place in oven again for two minutes, remove and place on paper towels

+Xstepher It depends on how much you have to spend of course, but the new Colt 90 (with constellation graphic) is an awesome entry level board that would work really well for your size. There were a lot of upgrades to this board compared to the old Colt line. If you have a little more to spend the Core 94 is nice because it has the new F5 bindings which are a huge improvement over the F1 bindings that come with the Colt 90. If your budget is flexible the NEW COMP 95 is probably the best value for money because it has the NEW Matrix II trucks as well which are incredible. Great for everything from entry level to advance. It's board you won't grow out of now matter how good you get.

The trick is to push with your rear foot without touching the rear tire. It's difficult. Your front foot is fixed in place on the board, the board is pretty wide and the trucks are even wider, and so getting your rear foot wide enough to avoid hitting the rear tire puts a lot of rotational stress on your front knee. It can be done with practice, and I suggest that a fair amount of that practice should be on your living room carpet.
