Johnny has also starred in the tv series' Siberia, Hollywood Girl, and the mini series The Passenger. He's also had roles in series such as NCIS, Army Wives and Criminal Minds.
Today we talk about how similarly share having a 'rage' inside of us that we're able to tap into when acting and how it could stem from childhood. We also discuss the loss of our fathers and how that impacted us, before diving into Johnny's' most recent storyline on General Hospital.

I didn't know Johnny was on State of Mind. I was just watching it crying. My heart is broken what happened to him. I watch General Hospital every day. He was an excellent actor. I pray they catch the criminals who did this to him and put them away for life. My prayers go out to his family and friends. He will be missed. R.I.P. Johnny.

Maurice, after watching this for a second time after 2.5 yrs , I am thankful that you did this interview. 1. It shows how dedicated he was as an actor and how far he probably would've gotten if his life didn't tragically end. 2. It shows he had issues like those of us dealing w/ parental abuse. 3. He was just a normal guy who happened to land on a show that got to showcase his talents with the Liam story. 4. He was an overall good human being that was so genuine. (Sorry in advance that this is a long-winded comment. I’ve never felt so compelled to speak on an actor’s passing before, and I just had to share.) I started getting back into GH consecutively after my dad suddenly passed away in 2021. It was always my comfort show growing up, and I finally carved out the time to watch it more. For at least an hour everyday, I could escape my own grief and get lost in the drama of Port Charles. At that time, Brando and Sasha were my favorites. They were having a baby and eventually lost it, which was some of the most vulnerable, realistic, and heartbreaking episodes I’ve seen in a while. As a mother myself who almost lost their son in birth, I related in a certain way. I feel like we were able to see that kind of acting again when Brando died. The twisted irony of it all is that Brando was also senselessly killed, and I remember being so upset that the writers got rid of such a great character for the sake of a Heather storyline. There was so much more that Brando could’ve been, and I was looking forward to seeing him and Sasha get the family they so deserved, while never replacing the son they lost. The interesting thing about watching your favorite characters die on screen is knowing that in real life they’re okay. It’s just a role and perhaps he would eventually come back to Sasha in a dream or something. Maybe I’d find myself watching some other TV or movie in the future and he would be there, like an old friend saying hello. But, when you find out that the actor has died in real life after something so violent and senseless, a whole new grief as an audience member forms. However, it’s nothing compared to the grief his family must be going through, and I can’t even begin to imagine the turmoil they’re currently dealing with. My heart goes out to them and the coworker that witnessed it. I remember watching this State of Mind episode when it aired and having such admiration for Johnny and enjoying the very real conversation he had with Mo. RIP, Johnny. I hope you’re peacefully flying high up there, away from the ugliness that plagues our world. You will be sorely missed here, that’s for sure. Thank you for sharing your talent and vulnerability on screen. There will never be a better pairing for Sasha than Brando, in my opinion. And thank you to the cast of GH for gracing our screens everyday and doing what you do. I know a soap actor’s schedule is one of the most brutal in the business and I promise it doesn’t go unnoticed by the fans. Thank you for getting me and many others through such a tough times throughout our daily lives. I’ve continued to watch avidly since then and it’s always remained a comfort. Also, thank you Maurice for all the work and attention you bring to mental health. In a world where people still don’t understand the intricacies of mental health, you’re shining a much needed light on it. It’s beyond appreciated for so many of us that continue to struggle. ❤️

Wow!! I'm speechless... because u just voiced everything I've been feeling since Johnny passed so senselessly. I keep imagining the utter fear in him, on his face, when he realized he had been shot, and actually voicing it out to his friend, and his struggle to live. Uuuuuuu I'm making myself cry again!! How did we make this awful and senseless turn, all around the world that, all the air has been let out of this world, that there's no FUN anymore??? Jeez, this one hurts,..these people unload some of our daily troubles, when they grace our tv screens, if only for an hour. How many more people will GH lose, right in front of our eyes, just after we just took a breath after the last one dies! As an actor too, I kinda get attached too these people and their characters, I'm sure we all do, and ,,,,,.this one just really stings like hell, just because he was just struggling to pay the rent like we all do as actors, when your phone is not ringing, as this is a tough business to get into, he was just helping his friend, who was a woman, and he was trying to walk her to her car, he didn't want her to go downstairs alone on the streets of dangerous LA, HIS CARING AND KIND HEART JUST STEPPED BETWEEN THEM AND HIS FRIEND!! Oh God! Split second decision! As great of an actor as he was, I always would be angry when I saw him in just some 2 liner flash in the pan guest flip on some popular show, and his great looks.....the last thing I saw him on recently, was a quick flash 1 liner(like he was some beginner) on the ABC show as a firefighter, on that Shonder Rimes show with GREY'S ANATOMY, and I remember saying, he wouldve been so great as a regular in that uniform, and that amazing smile of his. Anyway, let me leave u alone, and thanks for indulging me. God bless! 🙏

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS to you Maurice! Your "new gig" is well-deserved, and the WHOLE WORLD is going to be fortunate to be able to have access your insights on mental health. I have been crying a lot lately for seemingly no reason. I put it down to hormones. It wasn't. I figured it out. I was internalizing my rage. I released it and I feel free and empowered again. I'm feeling more like the "real" me. Releasing my anger, using it responsibly has probably saved my life. I was suicidal...again. When I listened to an old interview of me about my book SHATTERED on my mental illness journey, I heard the woman who was healing. Then the penny dropped. I was internalizing anger. Because I will not hurt anyone else, I want to hurt myself. I justified a lot of crap, then I got real with myself and figured out that I was hurting myself and I can't help anyone else if I'm not healthy and in control. I relate to you scaring people and being remorseful later. As a writer, I need my pain and rage aka my beast to be creative. I have to maintain balance and control without repressing. I adore you. I love this podcast! You're helping a lot of people.

As always, Thank you, Maurice for having Johnny on the show. It was a fantastic raw, real talk. thank you, Johnny for letting us see you and allow us to love you even more. I believe so many of us were beat as children, especially those who are older because that was acceptable then. My mother suffered mental illness. Her rage would propel her to beat us in anger. That caused so much trauma in my life and I was anger with her for years until I realized she was suffering also. I have since forgiven her but She passed away with Alzheimer’s in 2017 and didn’t know me. God bless you Maurice and Johnny and thank you.

I'm so sorry you didn't get the chance to really work things out with your mom before Alzheimers took her, then eventually God. I think most of us were taught to be kind to others and we teach our kids that but we have to be kind to OURSELVES. I pray you are in a better head space even though you were denied the chance to tell her how you felt. My mother is still alive. I swear she will live to 100 just to torture me. I am 57 and I've never had the guts to confront her with things. I tried a few times as a teenager and was quickly punished and silenced. The silence turned to repression. That triggered anxiety and depression and eventually suicide attempts. I think you are brave. You were ready and willing to talk to your mom about this. I'm nowhere near ready. I told her to shut up when I was nine years old and she beat me so bad that I was screaming. My adoptive dad heard me in the building hallway and came rushing in to stop her. She turned her rage on him but still kept beating me. He told her if she didn't stop SOMEONE (not him... he didn't protect me as much as he should have) would call Children's Aid and they'd take me away and the police would arrest her. She only stopped when she thought SHE might go to jail. She was too afraid at 16 to have an illegal abortion and too stubborn and cruel to allow my grandparents to raise me (they did anyway when I wasn't raising myself and my little sister). I can't forgive her for those choices. I've forgiven the child abuse and I'm trying to walk away from the adult abuse she still doles out.

Didn't realize I missed this one - what an exceptional interview! I found myself getting teary multiple times on this one, with the self realization that it must have required after Johnny's father passed. It's hell when you're blindsided by the death of a loved one. Grief is personal to each individual and there is NO time table for it, but the only way to regain your life afterwards is to go through it. It SUCKS...anger, sadness, despair, frustration, emptiness...they're all valid and you have to let yourself feel it, but it does suck. Thank y'all for an amazing interview ❤️

What a great conversation. Thank you for the courage to share your stories. I, too, was beaten so hard with a belt that I would make my mind go elsewhere until it was over. I never felt worthy of love from a man and married an abuser. These are patterns we create from our younger years until we decide to break the cycle. I forgave my dad and it released me from so much pent up emotions.

Johnny Wactor I love you and respect you as an actor. Thank you for introducing YOU. When you were talking about your dad, and grief Man can I relate. My dad was an alcoholic and when cancer took him, it fuc*ed me up big time. Then in 2020 I lost my husband. He was 56. Grief is a beast. It amazes me that we survive that pain. You're an inspiration Johnny!! I think it's great the way you were so real and opened up about some hard shit to talk about. Men should never feel like they can't be human. As long as my dad was alive, although I was doubtful, a part of me still hoped he would seriously see the need to get some help. Loved this episode!!! The honesty was so refreshing to see nowadays. But...you wear honesty on your sleeve always!! Thank you for the enlightenment from you both. Also...the baby storyline was amazing. My husband and I went through almost the exact situation over 30yrs ago with our first child. It was very hard for me to watch...but I did with lots of tears!!! Thank you Jonny and Sophia for doing the story so much justice. Looking forward to next week's episode!!!

I also relate to your experience with your Dad. My "mother" beat me and was brutally strict. She took her anger out on me and she still does. I am 57 yrs old! In the last few days, I've spoken back to her. 57 yrs old and still scared of my "mother". I was put on a pedestal and it was beaten into me to stay there. She was and is totally abusive. She was a good provider but she wasn't a mother. I spent most of my life with my maternal grandmother. She saved me. Any good in me is because of her. I can't even talk to her about this today. She threw me out at 16. Prior to that she allowed her male common law partner to sexually harrass me and nearly rape me. Getting kicked out saved me! I slept on my grandmother's couch for a year because she was sheltering so many other family members. I was soooo grateful for that couch! God bless that woman. I also had a schizophrenic grandfather and his parents in the same home. Apparently he was violent toward my mom and her siblings but he was my hero. I was his Princess. When I was an infant, he allegedly threatened to hurt me and his mother finally stepped in and he never touched another person or animal in aggression again. He came back from WWII a totally different person. I guess I inherited mental illness and also got it through traumatization by my mother. No substance abuse issues. She is just a really angry woman who had me at 16 yrs old. She didn't even know how to boil water when she moved us out when she was about 21 yrs old. She had no idea how to be a mother. Today she shows up when I need her but it is for show. I know that 100%. I'm standing up and staying away. I'm trying not to ask her for ANYTHING! She triggers deep anxiety that often turns to depression. She told me to stop threatening suicide and just do it already. That fueled me!! I don't ask why anymore. It is what it is. This is my lot in life. I deal with it through a psychiatrist and medication. I have asked God why once why I got this shit and He did answer me. We all have struggles we have to overcome in order to be stronger and ascend. Wishing everyone listening all the best. Remember... be kind to YOURSELF! Others are important too but if you don't take proper care of yourself, you really can't help anyone else. Blessings from Toronto Canada.

This struck a cord with me. I felt the same when my grandmother died and it took a long time to work though all my emotions. I also want to say I agree with you Maurice. Johnny deserves more storylines. He's super talented and GH should capitalize on that before he goes on to be a global superstar! We the fans also deserve more Brando and Sonny scenes!
