Today's video takes another look at the Era 3 Western Alliance Premium Heavy Tank, the MBT 70.
On my first playthrough of this tank, I wasn't overwhelmed with its performance and apart from being a good silver earner, I didn't think too much of it.
However, this tank received small buffs with the start of the Evolution season so I decided to give it another try.
Was this enough to make the MBT 70 better?
In today's video I will tell you my opinion on the above question, as well as tell you what was buffed, what I think about the tank, how I like to play it and what equipment and commander setup I use.

MBT 70 is a good tank, I just 3 marked mine. Realize it's a medium tank, the only thing "heavy" about the tank is the high alpha damage it can do if you penetrate, THAT'S IT. A lot of tanks you won't penetrate from the front, even when shooting at traditional weak areas...so I'm many cases it's best to not fire and instead wait for an opportunity to present itself when the enemy tank turns it's body/turrent, especially when the enemy is focused on another tank. Some tanks are vulnerable when they are facing you at a 45 degree angle, I'd recommend watching KZbin videos of people 3 marking the MBT 70 to kinda get an idea of that. This part you'll just kinda learn from experience. This is a pack/support tank. Do not go to a weakly reinforced area, stick with the large group. Also, if you do get caught on a flank and many enemies will soon be on the way, learn to retreat EARLY, you don't even need to turn the tank around, just hit reverse, spin the camera around and reverse outta there before your position gets overrun. You only need to consistently get 10 pens in a game to gold mark the tank, so concentrate on getting your damage CONSISTENTLY. Use a 9 skilled commander. The DPM can be ridiculous at just over 6k/min. About the ATGMs.... They CAN do damage but sometimes they'll do zero damage and the downside is a much longer reload along with the requirement of leaving your tank exposed to maintain missile lock so personally I'd recommend using the cannon primarily. LASTLY, I'd recommend grinding this tank if you're serious about 3 marking it. You will be making lots of silver, and once your brain unlocks the full potential of this tank, you'll easily earn +450k silver even in a loosing battle. Ohh and have FUN!!! 🙂

You should be the one doing the reviews mate, you know your stuff and I agree :) I have been grinding the MBT 70 a little and the silver it puts out is incredible. Hi mate! Sorry for the late reply. Unfortunately, I was recently unwell with a virus, then when I recovered from that, I slipped on a walk and ended up in the hospital lol. The MBT 70 can be a tough tank to play as the penetration is low, but the DPM is great when you can penetrate the tanks and the ATGMs are fun. I would say wait until the Black Friday sales this year as it may be on sale then for cheaper. 280k Free xp is a lot to part with, especially if you're unsure on the penetration. It works a lot better than it first did and makes a lot of silver which is awesome. Thanks for the support!

So much in the game doesn't make sense now mate, I agree with you. For instance, the Taran as a WWII Tier 10 Premium is better than the Obj. 120 in Cold War and yet they shouldn't really be in the both modes. I think I've learn to suspend my disbelief now lol. I have to say this is actually a great tank Just like WG describes it on its describe page, this is a medium tank with a heavy tank gun....with a trick or two under it's sleeve.

That's a great description mate. You've summed it up. I know a lot of people don't like it, myself included before the buff, but it is very good once you start penning. Why is this tank in era 3? It was made before the BMP-2 and roughly the same time as the FV4211. Funny, Wargaming would put a premium tank in an era that had difficulty penetrating other tanks.

Over the years WG has become less interested in historical accuracy and more interested in novelty, which isn't awful, but only in small doses. It does struggle to pen in Era 3, I feel like a little extra would help it without the DPM making it too good. Thanks for the support and sorry for the late reply!

From my experience, it's a very hit and miss tank in terms of it's consistency. The penetration suffers and in certain scenarios, it struggles, but in the right matchup, it's a great silver earner. I try to play it a supporting MBT, and sometimes as a mid range vehicle that takes out lightly armoured tanks. Thanks for watching and for supporting the channel. It really needs another buff to the penetration. It can have some good games, but it just can't be consistent and at long range, the penetration suffers against the sides of many vehicles. It's a shame as the insane reverse speed and great DPM are wasted on this tank. Sorry for the late reply. Things have been pretty busy IRL, with myself and my girlfriend not being too well, so I am behind in replying to my comments. I always try and respond to everyone, even if it takes a while lol. Yeah I agree. The buff was good but it still needs more and it wouldn't make it OP or anything so I don't know why they can't. I guess the average win rate is nearly 50% which is their marker I think for balancing. Thanks for the support mate :)

I guess a pen buff would be nice but I mean it’s a fact u can’t penetrate era 3 MBT with a era 1 tank. there’s videos of em done, Complete weak point guides. Me personally I don’t have any problems doing damage. But I can understand where people are coming from if they don’t understand where to shoot the tank. Great glass cannon tank it’s a blast great damage and silver earning tank love it. Can’t wait to play tanks again haven’t been in able to play for like 6 months got 2 more to go

If mines negative I'll bounce most of the shots I take but when it's positive, I'll pen , cause multiple fires ect. In general though I quite like it as it needs some thought and players can't autoaim all the time. Great video 👍

Any passive playstyle definitely helps this tank out. The good shell velocity means that at least if you don't pen, which as you know can be a lot, then you can stay hidden. When a good game comes around though the silver profits are beautiful. Thanks for the support mate :)
