The gate was turned 5-10 feet away from it’s original location when down, resulting in is having to call the number on the emergency info sign.

NOBODY CARES ABOUT THE FUCKING GATE!!! The bus driver saved those children and followed protocol perfectly.

I have been studying railroads for my whole life, and I understand this. I was talking about the gate because of my knowledge on the loading gauge (clearance) that the bus driver had. I knew that the train likely would not have hit the bus even if the bus did not back up. This was also my first time witnessing something like this, so I was kind of shocked. Another thing is that, no, the bus driver did not follow correct protocol. As per the FMCSA, "There may be a white stop line painted on the pavement before the railroad tracks. The front of the school bus must remain behind this line while stopped at the crossing," which the driver evidently did not do, and it also states when talking about the crossbuck signs, "This sign marks the grade crossing. It requires you to yield the right of-way to the train. If there is no white line painted on the pavement, you must stop the bus before the crossbuck sign." Another rule that was broken was that the driver reversed after the gate landed on the bus. "If you get stuck between gates, or the cross arm comes down on any part of the bus, drive through the cross arm and break it. Cross arms are not very strong and they are designed to break. Never attempt to pass, stop, or back up on the railroad tracks." And before you argue that the driver didn't have good visibility, there's something about that too. "If the view of the tracks is not adequate, do not attempt to cross. Try and avoid 'inching up' to get a better look at the tracks. A trains engine can overhang the track by 3 feet on either side. So keep your distance at all times." TL;DR: Although yes, the bus driver did save those kids, they did NOT follow correct protocol, and broke numerous rules. And about the gate, I was like 10 years old, and this is an old video from 2 or 3 years ago. I knew the train wouldn't hit the bus because it wasn't within the loading gauge (side clearance) of the locomotive, and I was kind of in shock, sorry.

the bus shouldnt have gotten that close to start. lights were flashing before the bus even got to it. Maybe he didnt see those lights since they do appear dim, but my guy does not need to be that close

Shouldn't have backed up, should've just waited until the train passed and the gates went back up. That way the bus nor the gate would've gotten damaged.

Also this same crossing was malfunctioning last Monday, causing an MBTA to go into emergency. I saw it right as it came to a stop while blasting its horn, then immediately reset everything and continued the last mile or so to Forge Park/495.

The bus driver wasn’t planning on stopping for the crossing until he saw the lights. That violates the law, as they are supposed to stop look and listen at ALL CROSSINGS

The talking was fine. I was calling the driver a dope for twisting the crossing arm. Someone who drives for a living should know how close (or not) they are to the tracks...!@@northeastrailfanproduction9199
