I bet this was a morning peak train, because this is the only time you can ride in the car with the cab at one end on inbound trains, otherwise it is closed off per Keolis/MBTA policy. I don't know why that policy is mostly unique to the MBTA Commuter Rail, and why the MBTA Commuter rail has the most restrictions on what cars and doors are opened compared to other railways in the US and world?

I have ridden in the cab end car on occasion. It was during peak times, and the train was crowded.
