Bay Area it was Smear the Queer or Kill The Pill depending on if parents were around. We even did it in Pop Warner practice. I was the running back, so I was running against the entire starting defense. It was one of the more fun drills. 8 in the Box was the best, 4 lined on each side, 20 yard long 10 yard wide Box to get through. For the offensive group, they'd give it to the first, second, third, or 4th. If they gave it to 3, you had two blockers and the 3rd had the ball and 3 defenders came. 4 meant 3 blockers 4 defenders. The best was when they'd give it to 1 and you just had 1v1. On those, we had an unwritten "no juke" rule. 1v1 you went helmet to helmet. Good times.

I was in southern Cali too, and we definitely called it smear the q****! Didn't even know what that word meant at the time. Or if we were playing football in the street, we would call that sideline pop. Cause if you caught that ball anywhere near the sideline, you were getting hit as hard as possible! Those two games were the cause of a lot of ER visits and insurance claims on vehicles!
