Not really sure what this video is for.. it isn't a review or an in depth test. It is just unpacking and plugging a media converter into a customer router (CPE) in prep for doing the reverse where I replace the CPE with a media converter on a FTTP/FTTH installation.
tp-link MC220L(UN) Ver 4. (Version 4) Gigabit SFP Media Converter
Part Number: 1706502030
Video shows the media converter, the power supply and voltage/amps, plugging in a SFP module and the lights on the media converter.

can the output from the sfp be branched using a spliter then the output from the spliter can go directly to the router or ONT, please answer

HI, may I ask you a question? If the SFP module says up to 20Km and I'm using a fiber cable at 30m, will this overheat the media converters? (I'm using 2 media converter 1GB single mode) -
@freename
@freename 4 жыл бұрын
For that module in question I know someone who has run them on 3m patch leads for years without issue. (You can also buy attenuators to reduce the signal levels or pre-attentuated patch cables but I wouldn't bother)

Was this to allow you to connect to a Gigaclear FTTP without the Genexis router?
@freename
@freename 3 жыл бұрын
Good question. Depends how Gigaclear run their network. If it is just routed ethernet and DHCP then yes. If they need a static IP setting, a special DHCP option (similar to a header), or PPPoE then things may be a bit more difficult. Do you know what they use for their optics to buy the correct one to plug in? If you do have the answer or you successfully manage this I'd love for you to reply again here with how you got on and what you did to make it work!

Is there a way to login in to the media converter to configure it like a modem? Just want to make sure there’s no firewall?

No, it's just a media converter as the name says. Doesn't do anything fancy. Doesn't have any management options.

Nice! have you noticed any speed limitation using that converter? When i attach device from my ISP and connect fiber i have like 900Mb but using this converter close to 400. I used different ethernet cables and wondering if there is something that does not allow same speed as on ISP modem.

I've not noticed a problem. Are you directly into the media converter or through your own router connected to the media converter?
@freename
@freename 2 жыл бұрын
You wouldn't be able to have one fibre and 4 media converters. Your ISP would usually provide a router which will do NAT to multiple computers or Xbox / devices and more. Those usually have 4 network sockets and also send WiFi signal.

Good morning i have a MC210CS media converter what connector i use ? Do i need to use adapter?
@freename
@freename 2 жыл бұрын
I don't really understand the question. The media converter in my video needs a user-supplied optic / SFP. MC210CS looks like it has its own built in optic and uses SC connectors for the fibre.

I can find out for you in about a week.. but if it helps, the exact model number of the power supply of the one in the video is T090060-2D1. To me it "seemed" like a normal size 12volt jack.. but that's just me going by memory.

So my isp ran a fiber terminal to the wall but my router is only compatible with copper. Could I use this to plug fiber into the wall and covert it to copper for a router/firewall?

Yes, if the optic you get is compatible with the network they run. And they don't use port security like AT&T in the USA.

Is that compatible to the cisco GLC-LH-SMD transceiver
@freename
@freename 2 жыл бұрын
I suspect it doesn't care what transceiver is used but it is possible the transceiver checks and might block the tp link. Big vendors like doing stuff like that, sadly it is probably a try it and see. If you do try and get the answer would be good to know in a follow up comment here :)

I tested with fs.com "Single Mode" 1 x "1000BASE-BX BiDi 1310nm-TX/1550nm-RX (SFP-GE-BX)" module for one end and 1 x "1000BASE-BX BiDi SFP 1550nm-TX/1310-RX (SFP-GE-BX)" for the other end. For home applications would use SC connectors (Subscriber Connector) but in my video it might show an optic with the smaller LC (Low Cost) connectors. Don't forget to buy the appropriate length "single mode" fibre patch lead with the appropriate SC connector on the end. The plugs and sockets for the kit I mentioned usually have UPC (Ultra Polished Connector) rather than APC (Angled Polished Connector). [Home broadband fibre using "PON" (passive optical networking where a single fibre gets split) technology usually needs the APC connectors to reduce reflections from disconnected customer ends. You want to avoid connecting a UPC plug into an APC socket or the other way around.]

What is the brand of sfp module you use master?

Likely from FS.com and 0:58 in the video is the model number. Different routers will use different frequencies so make sure you get the matching optic for whatever you are attempting to connect to!

Do media converters only convert from copper to fiber then back to copper. Or can it also go from fiber to copper solely?

If you have the right optic and know the right configuration (VLAN, PPPoE details if required etc.) it can take service from wherever or whatever is sending it down the fibre.

@freename
@freename 3 жыл бұрын
Difficult to say and entirely depends on how the network is setup. Most providers will be basic DHCP only with no special requirements and this will work as long as you get the correct optic (there are many types and different send and receive frequencies.). However it is possible for the ISP to do strange stuff like require the correct MAC address or a special flag in the DHCP request before they give you an IP address.

Alright, so I made a mistake. I bought a fiber to ethernet converter but the optical port there is for tx so it doesnt even receive a signal from the isp cable. Would it be better if I copy your setup of the MC220L with a Rx sfp or should i buy another fiber to ethernet converter that has an rx slot on it. s.lazada.com.ph/s.YEV7H this was the converter I bought and s.lazada.com.ph/s.YvrPU this is the converter with an rx port on it
@freename
@freename 3 жыл бұрын
@@terryman0 The two products you've linked are very different. One uses two fibres (one for RX and one for TX) "Duplex Fibre" the first one uses a single fibre for both RX and TX "Simplex Fibre". You need to know what type your provider uses and the frequencies your provider uses then match your media converter to that. The MC220L option and buying optics to go in it might be more flexible for testing and the range of compatible optics you could buy or test. Remember that if your provider is transmitting on 1550 nm and receiving on 1310 nm your end will need to be transmitting on 1310 nm and receiving on 1550 nm

Has it ever been on? If so.. then your fibre line has been turned off or been broken. If it has never worked on that media converter then you might have the wrong frequency or "end" (A or B end) optic.

No. GPON is different to point to point fibre and needs the optic or router to be adopted and configured by the ISPs equipment. If they could provide you with an ONT fibre module to go in the media converter that would work. If you are in the UK on Box broadband you can ask them to provide you with a media converter they configure.

@@paskandani Thats a really good question! I don't have much to go on but a friend who works in a passive FTTP provider thinks that you would need a device that can configure the optic and the media converter probably doesn't have that ability.
