John Sinclair was their manager in the first few years. He was a political activist and founder of the white panther. He was arrested for having like two joints on him and had to go to jail for several years. HE was released two days after several artists played on a tribute to Sinclair

After getting signed to Elektra Records, absolutely. He was a major cause of their demise. He encouraged the behavior that got them ignored by the music industry.
