Abigail Martinez, a student at McAllen ISD's McAllen High School, is a strong advocate for autism awareness. She worked with the Morris Middle School Parent Teacher Organization to raise funds for an autism center in Matamoros, Mexico. On May 21, she led a guidance session for fellow students (known as Abby's Autism Support Squad) as they celebrated raising $1,500 for the autism center, known as the Autismo Un Mundo Contigo. The center provides therapy for children on the spectrum and is solely funded by donations. Abigail has visited the center and has organized fundraising activities since the 2020-21 school year. This year, the McAllen High community joined in support.
