This was so well filmed that you could see all the detail clearly, which is exactly what you need with some of the fiddly elements of sewing a man's shirt. I'm actually working on a different pattern now but there were so many basic things in common here, so I was able to learn some new and very helpful techniques from this wonderful seamstress. I have struggled in the past with that little rounded bit at the fronts of the collar stand, trying to get it to smoothly attach to the shirt's front placket. But seeing here that little piece of seam allowance that was not cut away made everything go according to plan. I cannot wait to try that out, and if I am half as successful as seen here, I will be happy. Just thought I would pop in to this video for a quick look, wound up watching the whole thing straight through. Very grateful to this nice lady for doing this video!

Very good tutorial with some good tips. I would have apnpreciated the actual spacing given in inches on the buttonholes I have for years done 3 1/2 inches between, The way to hem on the curve was very helpful as I am making this shirt for me neighbor who likes a curved him. Thanks for your wonderful instructions, My neighbor wears out the inside collar band so I found that interfacing it helped stop the fraying.

I want you to know how much I appreciate this video you recorded and how well done it is. I bought the pattern because of this vlog you recorded last year. This is my second shot at making a shirt using your helpful video. I have some questions as I go that might help others. I'm doing the button placard now. The pattern shows cutting only one interfacing strip. Do you interface both button placards or just the one with the button holes? If the one only with the button holes, it should be sewn on the left side. This wasn't clear to me in the video. Is there a way to contact you other than comments in youtube?

That sleeve seam is very weak -- you only have one sewn line to hold it together. That is not a flat-felled seam either. Does that pattern offer any alternatives to that weak seam for the sleeves? With a 5/8" seam allowance, the should be PLENTY of material for a better seam there.

Please share your thoughts. Also How would alter the sleeves for my size of arm? I think the arms might be two big. God Bless
@ivorputnam59583 жыл бұрын
When opening the buttonholes its easier to use an unpicked. It cuts it in seconds.Are there any other videos that show how to put the yoke on and the pocket. They are two best parts of any shirt and this video cuts them completley.
@melboe68424 жыл бұрын
I just found your channel - Thank you for this sew along. I love watching your process and hearing about why and how you manage your project. Is there a time when you cannot put your sleeve in on the flat? How would you when that is? Again, thank you for letting us in to watch! PS Love your sewing machine - she looks like a lovely old girl! :)
@SaturdayNightStitch4 жыл бұрын
You are so welcome! You can only sew in the flat when the sleeve is drafted to be sewn in the flat. Set in sleeves are curvier on the armhole (think a steep hill versus a gentle rise) - this means that set in sleeves have more fabric to be sewn on to the armhole hence why the need to be gathered first before sewing. This type of sleeve on the M6044 is a looser fit (you get that with flat sewn sleeves). Hope this helps!

Hi! I’ve made this shirt 3x but with non directional printed fabric. The next one I’m going to make has a distinctive one way directional print. My question is…. The pattern layout for the collar shows the grain line following the selvage but if I cut the collar pattern that way, the design will be going sideways. Is it okay to turn the pattern going perpendicular to the grain so that the pattern will be facing the correct direction when constructed?

Do you think this pattern is true to size.. meaning readymade size? Measurements for fit are not very helpful. Back length and bottom width really don't tell you much. Should I make same size as readymade XXL or should l go bigger?
@SaturdayNightStitch3 жыл бұрын
Hi! In sewing true to fit relates to hoe the finished sewn garments looks like the image on the pattern and whether the size you selected matches with what is on the size guide - its not compared to RTW clothing as they differ in fit from brand to brand. Select the size you want based on your chest and waist measurement according to the size guide on the back of the envelope. I recommend making a trial garment first to see if you like the fit you get. I did that with this shirt. The fit of this shirt is not tailored - its more of an easy fit style for a casual shirt. RTW sizes do not translate to sewing so use your measurements instead. Hope that helps.

Am I the only one that thinks there's a problem with the notches on the sleeve pieces in this pattern? You can match the edges of the pieces or the notches, but not both. Which makes the usual challenge of easing a high sleeve cap less likely to succeed. I'd love to hear if anyone else has had this issue and how they solved it.
@janebordeau4639 Жыл бұрын
OMG, I am making this shirt now, and thought the very same thing (or, alternatively, that I was going crazy). The sleeve back and shirt back double notch don't match up. I was easing in since the pattern specifies this, and I just scrunched up that little 2 inches or so much more than the rest of the sleeve to get the notches to match. Don't notice it on the right side of the garment. HOpe that helps!
