Every broadcast I ever listened to that Tim McCarver was in the booth I learned something. And what a Catcher!!! He was instrumental in beating my NY Yankees in the '64 World Series and he was only 22 years if I'm not mistaken. And anyone who caught two of the greatest pitchers ever, Steve Carlton & Bob Gibson, makes him a genuine baseball great. RIP Tim McCarver 🇺🇲⚾️

mccarver could always deliver the drama. his statements could send chills or make you think over and over about something . think maybe about someone who isn't a very avid baseball or who likes the playoffs on fox and watches. mccarver is the perfect analyst to explain and warm them up to the game. very tough to replace..... you'll see.

Both Joe Buck and Tim McCarver are both vastly underrated and underappreciated. You'll see when they put his replacement it the booth just how good he was. As far as Joe Buck, he's the closest thing we have to a modern day Pat Summerall in my book.

I guess we must be looking for different qualities in our broadcast. I want a professional who can relay what the players/managers are thinking as far as their thought process and someone who calls the game who isn't in there because he/she has a catchphrase coughDickVitalecough. Both Joe Buck and Tim McCarver were the sound of modern day October baseball. McCarver will be missed.

Tim was a class act and by the way a very good Major League Catcher (hit a Grand Slam on July 4th 1976 just happen to always remember that). Oh course many folks (younger) may not remember that Tim being a Cardinal from way back knew Joe's Father Jack Buck very well so he literally has known Joe Buck since he was born. I think that is pretty cool. God's Speed Tim McCarver may you rest in peace God Bless

William Milligan Joe Buck is not as bad as I know a lot of people think he is, but I will say I do think McCarver was better matched with the ABC crew in the '80's with Al Michaels and Jim Palmer than he was with Buck. It was just more natural, the three just had better chemistry, there was nothing forced about it--you always knew there was no other place those three wanted to be.

He was on the Phillies inthe 1980, Phillies world series team, and he was also on the Philadelphia tv broadcasting post game show that went on a While. He was broadcasting when he was still in uniform. I think that's where he got the taste of broadcasting. He did really well with Harry Kalas and Richie Ashburn. He said that him and Steve Carlton would be buried 60 feet and 6 inches away from each other. They won a world series in stl together in 1969, then they both get traded to Philly and start in 72 bad, but Carlton goes like 27-3 on a 53 win team. They call up Schmidt trade for rose and win a world series in Philly together. Rip I will miss the insight. Only true baseball fans can understand the little things you said. As in all sports

And that was a DISASTER. Even FOX, the network that has long tolerated Joe Buck for 20+ years (even at some points where I, a Buck defender, could not defend him) evidently knew that the booth of Verducci and ESPECIALLY Reynolds was a top-to-bottom shitshow and pulled the plug 2 years in.
@TheLocalLt
@TheLocalLt 4 жыл бұрын
Anton Films Reynolds was mediocre Smoltz is so much better. I get where they were coming from, as Reynolds was one of the best analysts in the game when he was a studio analyst at ESPN, and he had been doing Fox’s studio show for 2 years prior to the promotion, and had also been on the MLBN for the previous 5 years. However it turned out that his skill set just worked so much better in the studio than the booth. I like Verducci he still does some games for them, although he’s not on the #1 crew anymore.

Unlike some people, I personally enjoyed listening to Tim McCarver, and didn't have much of an issue with his commentating. He didn't exactly SOUND like the most literate person when it came to analysis, but he knew enough to give an insight. He also seems like a nice guy who is sincere, and I don't think anyone who seems nice deserves that kind of hatred. So while I'm interested to hear his replacement, it will be strange not hearing his voice along with Buck's during the World Series.

It's ridiculous that Scott Rolen is in the HOF and Tim McCarver isn't !!! But I could probably say the same thing about 50 other players. They need some new voters for the baseball HOF. The MLB network did a nice job with an overview of McCarvers' career today. Chris Russo dedicated his entire show to McCarver. I always think of him as Steve Carltons' designated catcher here in Philly. But he was close to Bob Gibson too. WRZ 2023-02-16
