A big thank you. I've got a small repair shop and I take on anything and everything weedwackers to bulldozers. got a Mac 10-10 last week siezed up once loose no spark but I was patient and let the oil do its thing so we had 140psi compression and I moved foward and stumbled apon your vid. Certainly glad I did as the saw started damn near instantly and ran well at that. well enough the customer is more then ecstatic and no problem with his repair bill I handed him.

Those electronic modules work great 👍. I recently put one on a briggs edger. No need to pull the points/condenser just mounted to one of the coil bolts. Faster less labor!

Not what i do but you make me want to tear down some saws just to see if i can do it . I have a couple Xl-12 homlites .i was told coils are bad , to exspensive to fix . Might get at it myself. Have a good one.

...maybe off topic for this video, but I have often wondered why it is so many people have trouble spelling "McCulloch?"...all the time see "McChulloch", "McCullough", "McCollough", etc., etc...probably the most misspelled chainsaw company name outside "Husqvarna"....

..fixing to do this conversion to my McCulloch 7-10..one note, if you use this type of chip on a Stihl 031, you will have to reverse the polarity to make it work correctly...the 031 has a lot of odd design features that makes it not very repair-friendly..wonder if there are any other saws you have to reverse the polarity on?....

If you were to spin that flywheel with the drill after you snipped the wire going to the points would the ignition still spark? I mean with neither the points or the moduel connected. Asking for my own diagnostics

No buddy it wont the coil has no electrical storage capacity to discharge without the condensor

Does anyone know if you can open up the spark plug gap after you install the electronic ignition? For example, in a small block Chevy, if you convert from points to HEI, you can open up the gap from .035 to .045. Also, let’s talk crazy for a minute. What if you installed dual ignition modules?

Ebay normally has some coils on there the coil for the 605 mcculloch is the same coil with just a longer wire buddy

I know this is an older video, however I have a Stihl 048AV electronic saw. I thought the coil was bad so replaced it not knowing that under the flywheel is another part a "magnetic pickup ring" will this part that you are putting in the mac work on the 048 Stihl as well? I have a pro mac 55 and I can't find an ignition coil for it, this module you put on just replaces the points and condenser, right? How's come these coils go bad so easily, is it internally or the spark plug wire or cable that goes bad?

a coil has nothing to do with this chip. coil does not replace the chip. a simple resistance test vs specs in the manual will tell you if primary and secondary are ok. if it still wont spark, install the chip 1st as its possible to have a bad coil with resistance in spec. if still no spark replace coil.
