McDavid is right, this is absolutely maddening

Connor McDavid hasn't played with Sidney Crosby on an international level and the window is closing. McDavid was asked about the the World Baseball Championship WBC that played out like a movie with Shohei Ohtani striking out Mike Trout as Japan won it all. For baseball fans, this one of those all time moments and as a result, it has the world talking about baseball again, as it should. So how do we get that for hockey?
The closest thing to this that I remember in hockey, was the 2010 olympic gold medal game between team USA and Team Canada. That, was absolutely electric! But, as McDavid says, its something that the hockey world has been missing for over 8 years now. Whether the World Cup of Hockey or the Olympics, I dont care, I just want to see a best vs best tournament with McDavid and Crosby before its too late! I cover this in todays NHL hockey video!

When one of this pitcher's "bombs" ends a career, the comparison could be made. Not many career ending injuries in a baseball game, other than strains.. Besides standing around getting a tan, what's the saying? "It's like life in that there are prolonged periods of boredom and monotony, punctuated by intense moments of excitement and sometimes terror.", is less risky to an asset than the constant pounding of a 200 pound man, hitting the asset 30 times in 60 minutes. And their owners know it. It means nothing but risk to their asset.

Great video, thank you for this one! I totally agree, it was amazing to see Germany achieve the silver medal in the 2018 Olympics. Hockey is always in the shadows of soccer over here and this really gave it some attention it deserves. The team beat Switzerland, Sweden and Canada only to lose to Russia in OT in the finals. I know that a lot of players where missing as you mentioned in this video. Still, these players played some of their best hockey and are Olympic medalists now.

The WBC is a chance for players to play for their country outside of the Olympics against most of the best players in the world. And the ratings and dialogue around the tournament was HUGE. It feels like it would be the same for hockey. What's not to love?

NHL has only *one* thing keeping its fans: the game itself, that's it. Most of us loathe everything except the game and it's cool ass traditions. The NBA used to be awesome, but the game itself is a shell of what it used to be, so I left fandom many years ago. The NFL with all its bullshit, is about to lose me as well. Although the hockey culture and game is much too engrained to change so drastically for the worse, all these trivialities, like the TERRIBLE refs, and incessant, unwanted agenda bullying isn't helping. I am glad the NHL players haven't been playing on the Olympics. I absolutely hate the Olympics since they changed from amateur to professional. I remember how exciting 1980 was. No matter who wins now it means souch less. And as a Penguin fan i don't want players from my team getting hurt for nothing. NHL players are paid to play in the NHL. Not meaning less tournaments. I guarantee you if given the choice, the players would jump to pay their own way. And the NHL knew the IOC couldn't get insurance on the players even if they wanted to. Why cant there be a standalone Org to pop up to facilitate this? (I know the cost would be huge, but it isn't impossible) Not sure how many Smash Bros Melee fans are here, but this last December there was set to be essentially a World Series. Worldwide Best on Best. And Nintendo shut it down. Two weeks later a brand new org popped up, invited all the players and staff from that World Series to participate and operate the event. They ran the event but without the titles or the huge cash prize the original event had. Out of my last 12 years of watching that sport, that event easily made 3 of my top 5 melee memories. What would be stopping this from happening with a middle-man org to facilitate the Officials, Players, Teams, Broadcasting crew, etc? If it's just money, that feels like a lame excuse to not have the best hockey played that this generation has ever / will ever see.

The story deserves discussion but so do the "finer" points. Now I realize that no one's completely innocent in any form of business dealings but the IOC is pretty much a criminal organization that extorts money out of countries dumb enough to pay the billions they ask for a sporting event that's as much or more about global brands selling carbonated sugar water and deep fried potatoes to the masses. So, it's not the ideal or close to optimal environment for a series or competition. Compare that to the 1972 series and, well . . . there's no comparison. On top of that, we've got countries like Quatar and China hosting these events--essentially autocracies that severely limit or outright deny any democratic rights of their citizens, so in addition to a criminal hosting organization we've got a kletocracy that's spending public funds to bolster their country's reputation in the world by borrowing from the brands that McDavid and Crosby have built with blood and sweat and a few tears. Finally there's the cost of the tickets. Only the wealthiest fans can get tickets to these games. The vast majority of the plebs who follow the sport are left watching the beer and betting commercials. It's all kind of disgusting. McDavid deserves better. He deserves the opportunity to show the world that he's the best player of all time, but a part of me would die a little if he played a series in a corrupt state with a corrupt host organizations that sold its ticket to the wealthiest people on the planet and screwed over everyone else in the process.

I would not watch if it included any of Russia, Belarus, China, Iran, DPRK, etc. Basically the New Axis. Here’s what fans need to understand: the World Baseball Classic was successful- but for who? We’re the MLB owners enriched? Because those owners are the one who have spent and risked so much money paying these players and getting them exposure. Those owners have every right to not want their high paid employees to be at risk. So a Canada Cup scenario- yes is fans all want to see it- the players- probably want to play. But the owners are the ones paying the players. The players are under contract to their teams. This would be like loaning your expensive car to your neighbor to drive it 2,000 miles- how does that benefit you? Until the owners can find a benefit in these events- they’re not gonna happen.
