If you have ever tried doing that drill, you know how other worldly McDavid's skills are. I saved a very small iota of pride when he finally touched one of the obstacle pucks. In terms of sheer skill he is the G.O.A.T. and I was a huge fan of the 80's OIlers, so I am not inclined to give anybody the nod over Gretzky. But Gretzky had other attributes beyond just skills that Connor has yet to prove he is equal to. That being said, McDavid's leadership and killer instinct (two of Gretzky's key attributes) are improving exponentially. Barring career altering injury, I don't think there will be any reasonable argument against McDavid as the G.O.A.T. by the time he is on the decline.

Yah, anyone who has tried this knows how hard it is to do this without losing the puck sometime, or bumping a puck (or 5), and to do it at the relative speed he is, is just crazy. I've done this kind of thing many times and I can tell you it looks nothing like this haha.

Gretzky didn’t have the best physical skills but they were still elite, he was a hockey savant, always a step ahead of everyone. In terms of pure skill, give me Mario Lemieux, Marcel Dionne, Sergei Federov, Bobby Orr, Pavel Datsyuk, there’s lots of more skilled players than McDavid, I’d even put Sydney Crosby, Jaromir Jagr in front of him. Calling him the skill goat this early is kinda dumb, tbh.

Especially the younger generations like they need to say they are the best at something… so ya McDavid is the best at stick handling around a bunch of pucks in the neutral zone without tocumg any pucks with his skates. 🤦🏽 you will get an argument from Patrick Kane fans and Jack Hughes isn’t to bad at tit either ! Let’s let time play out to see if he can become as good as Gretzky, Lemieux Orr.

I think people are going a little crazy over this drill over hyping it. I see my kids (AAA) do this drill just the same as him probably even at a faster speed. On top of that Patty Kane and Johnny hockey have mastered this on another level then this. It’s still very impressive but some of the comments are like, “this is so so skilled and nearly impossible.” Ya nope.
