Alot of people filmed their lives, it's not a new concept

Back then, there was no internet to share my videos. They could only be seen by hooking up the video camera to the TV screen and playing the tape for whoever was in the room. It's a whole different ball game now. Anyone can go nearly anywhere and instantly upload or live stream their adventure for the entire world to see.

I think I came here around the same time, possibly a year or two sooner and possibly during the summer. I remember my mom and dad needing to head out for Army duty and they decided to drive and take me along. It was late night or early morning (still dark) when we made the stop here. That trip was an incredibly fond memory of mine so I thank you for sharing it!

Wow that remodel is horrendous. Looks like a warehouse, no life in the building.

Glad I got to see it in 2012 pre-renovation.

At least i got to see it , and eat there in 2011 before they tore it apart, gutted it and rebuilt it to what it is now. It won't be the same if i ever get to go there again but at least got the memories of the only mcD's that stretched across a major highway. I am sure it was the same feeling for people that knew it as the the glass house restaurant before mcD's got a hold of it and added thier arches to it, it wasn;t the same for them either after glass house left.

Your thoughts are the same as mine. I was an adult when I stopped there on several occasions and McDonald's was what I experienced. As a kid in the 60's & early 70's, my family stopped there but as much as I wanted to, we never ate in the restaurant. Anthony Reichardt Santa Ana,California

Now you know! I remember the Howard Johnson's era while on family vacations in the 1960's and early 1970's. We only stopped to use the restroom and stretch our feet. I begged my parents to eat in restaurant but it never happened. Anthony Reichardt Santa Ana, California

I grew up about a mile away from "The Glasshouse". My sister was a waitress there as a teenager and my older sister had her wedding reception there. To me, the best thing was the escalator, as it was the only one in town.

No idea it closed until I saw this vid. Why are all the unique McD's turning into boring looking Subways? Great memories of stopping here when in the area.

I had sort of heard about this place but never extensively looked into it. There are definitely some things about this structure and layout, especially pre-renovation, that I really like and favor compared to my Illinois Tollway Oasis counterpart. Now my parents were babies themselves when this first opened lol. But I would love to have an over the road fine dining experience! Now I don't mind a nice McD, Panda or Sbarro meal over the Illinois Tollway lol, but this needs to happen!

Sigh. Why can't they make structural repairs without completely gentrifying and murdering history? Not that many places have the retro decor inside anymore, even the early 2010s was still kinda old school compared to now.

How did "the world's largest mcdonalds!" not have the world's largest ball pit??? It was just *beyond* boring there...

Wow, glad I made it in there just under the wire in May of 2013. They did a complete botch job on that renovation, just ruined its iconic stature.

The original, as it was built, was much better. It had its own personality and was inviting. This renovation has nothing. The side buildings now seem to take away from the famous arch.
