McFarlane Toys THE REDEEMER Anti-Spawn Action Figure Review

Although we don't yet have a traditional Spawn figure from this line, we have gotten one of his main antagonists. Will this be a good example of what we should expect to come or will it give us reason to hope things get better before the titular character makes his grand debut?

So far the Gunslinger Spawn is the only one I own I was really looking forward to the regular Spawn but the fact that he only has half of a cape is a deal breaker for me

Well now the MK11 spawn is pretty dope. Yes he's got the red on the suit bur if you *NEED* a spawn the MK11 one is great. You could probably also hunt down the old one as well for the modern suit

I haven’t really been a Spawn fan, this figure interests me because of the idea behind him and the design. I don’t mind the diaper Mcfarlane uses but I don’t really like it and yeah sometimes they irritate me too. On his Peacemaker figure, Mcfarlane made the diaper minimal and the articulation is amazing so I guess it depends on the figure. Still looks good to me though, I like the size and maybe customizing it would be worth it? I think customizing figures might be the way to go now with prices and everything. I’m close to calling it quits on this series, there’s this version. There’s a version of this guy with some green paint on the wings + an entirely different sword. Now there’s a “Dark Redeemer” that’s pretty much this guy but black, silver, and red instead of blue, gold, and green. Just feels like he’s phoning it in, the come Kickstarter time we’re blown away. I’m just hoping to see the original look on the Redeemer some day, and some of the classic characters. I don’t follow the comics much lately but if see something I like I’ll pick it up.

I'm waiting for the price to go down but once it does I would add it to my collection. The art on the box looks like McFarlane's work. Floppy Joints are expected with McFarlane but then the exact opposite of concrete joints as well.

I feel like the reason everyone in the spawn line has crazy back leans is so the can get that one flying pose that angel spawn was in. I don’t know why but that immediately came to mind when you mentioned that

Lack of accesories and good base just stop me from getting more of this line, and yeah the lose joins kill it for me sadness because like you said they almost great they need to change the desing a little bit and find good joins and for the love of just get that tiny base out put extra hands or other accesory

Just got the black and grey version of this figure and have to say thecsoawn like seem to make like cool creepy shapes and sizes. This one figure made me want to collect more of this line

I'm glad I'm not the only one who found this figure strange. The Redeemer has such a fantastic design in the comics. MacFarlane dropped the ball on him...hard!

I used to collect the spawn line, I still have something like 30 different spawn figures but a lot of them were really weird and don’t look good in the same case, I’m hoping the new line has a good variety of characters and that they actually look good together

I have to cut back on some of the lines I've been collecting and the first two to go were McFarlane Toys and Super7. The truth is before I decided to start cutting on some of the lines I collect I had already decided to stop collecting McFarlane Toys and Super7, since they are respectively not good enough and not good enough for the price point. I was wondering if you'd check out the xesray studios gladiators figure line. They're pretty muscular figures and I'd like to know your thoughts on them. If you do choose to get them, I recommend getting wave 2 as wave 1 has some QC issues of brittle joints.

Yup, I did dry brush gold to the armor and pearl white to the wings and looks way cooler now.

The nice articulation goes right out the fucking window when you have to lean it against something just so it won't fall over.

What’s your opinion on modding range of articulation on this Mcfarlane figs and things like improving greatly by simple things like dry brush/wash? But all must be done by yourself

I really only have that MK version with the cool sword.. other than that, I don't even consider myself a Spawn fan, I just find that design really awesome.. I do kind of want another figure for him to fight though

I’ve always liked the character. Well this has never really been my favorite design since I like the first two iterations of Redeemer little bit more I’ll still get this.

I'm actually glad I passed on this guy. I also do not Like The Chunks carved out of him at the waist. I was really looking forward to getting this guy, but when I saw the Gold Paint Job, I changed my mind. It looks more like bronze.

When it comes to this line, I really only care about the Spawn and Redeemer variants. And yeah, some extra paint would've went a really long way on this guy.

Because of MK11 Spawn's Fame has somwhat returned in the recent years so i think The Spawn Figures are directed at anyone

It's a really solid looking figure to have on the shelf, but that's about it. Shame the articulation isn't as good as it should be, but at least I'm able to do some poses that look decent. Between something like this by McFarlane, and your typical Marvel Legends, both now retailing 25 USD, I'd choose the former. It actually LOOKS like a collectible.

Mine was also very floppy when I got him. His sword is pretty bad, and the ankles are way to loose. If you made a new sword for him I’d definitely buy it! I love the Spawn axe you made for MK 11 Spawn. Great review, I’m happy to know I was not alone with the floppy joints.

I put just a little bit of hot glue in the base of the head to raise it higher off the shoulders (cm at MOST) and I think his proportions look way better

Given the weak, unpractical ankle design, torso leaning backwards and the posable wings, I feel it was designed primarily for flight poses. And it does indeed look spectacular in such poses. But of course, no flight stand included…

I don’t think Spawn had the depth to support a line for 20 plus years like Marvel or DC can. I think enough time has passed where we missed it. And the market was ready for it to restart.

It really amazes me how few figures have decent leg articulation if you want to have them sitting. I know sitting is not an exciting pose but one of my first diorama projects was a throne and I hardly have any figures who can use it.

Had this guy for awhile now and my only gripe was his wings could have been more articulated and maybe lighter. That aside I was very very happy with this figure. My personal ranking on him is "happy to own it" Cheers

I really don't like this version of The Redeemer of I'm honest. The golden butt plate, and the weird corset crotch hybrid thing just seems odd to me. The version on the side of the box definitely looks better imo. This figure definitely needed a wash too.

Great review. I bought this character, when it first came out. Not 100% impressed. I love THE spawn character- but only get certain other characters for my own collection. Yeah- im a year late, but ....😂

I got dark redeemer, looks badass, but good lord, it’s ass. It’s wings are wayyyyyy too heavy, he can barely stand, even with the stand, so floppy, and the wing pegs are stressing.

I don't even buy McFarlane stuff anymore their figures are a joke between crap useless "articulation" and the fact that they give figures gripping hands with no accessory to hold rather than what every company with any common sense does and just give them fists and then there's the ridiculous looking to the side heads they seem to think is cool rather than a neutral expression... half the shit they give you with the figures should be alternate accessories not the base ones.
