In reply to the do they use picks, yes in most videos you can see picks stuck to the mic, and to the blisters bit, thats most likely that left hand which plays the chords it happens when you move up and down the fret board too fast.

Dougie only uses picks when he play loud song [ Means cannot hear the bass properly ] Example : That girl, can u hear the bass? Impossible . Kinda hard . In she left me, it is so soft till u can hear the bass. So he uses his hand as hand is easier to play. Pick is harder. But pick does not give you blister.
