This was the last year that they combined the Prelims and Finals together and the third time that the overall champion won without the highest finals score. The next year, McGavock took the highest preliminary score, but finished fourth in the finals. Their preliminary score was actually high enough to combine for the highest score. I'm sure Mr. Beckman was beating his head over that one!

We won. I just lost confidence in the outcome because we all wanted perfection.

My god, how good McGavock used to be. They were a dynasty for 20+ years. I mean college level marching out of a Nashville public school band. It is really a shame to see them and John Overton now. Its not the kids fault. There are simply not as many kids at these two old powerhouses to produce this type product anymore. John Overton is marching about 75 nowadays, and Big Mac has about 110 from what I saw last fall. Damn the superintendent for screwing up the MNPS. In McGavock's case, most parents in their district either commit address fraud to send their kids to Mt. Juliet, or pay for DCA. A real shame.

Will the real 1991 Phantom Regiment please stand up? Good job on this, but it is pretty much a copy of everything Phantom did in 91.

A high school band of most 10th graders took on a professional drum corp regiment show? With 2.5x the members, inexperience, and low financial support I'd say Mr. Beckman vision came to fruition after all. Proud member.
