Wow the front end on this bus is in a very bad state of repair. He just bought this bus and brought it straight to us. This will be a big project.

The stainless on this MC-7 is flawless! As many have stated, up top she looks great, but it appears maintenance after the conversion work has been lacking to say the least. If this is a five-speed standard transmission, 1970 thru 1972 MC-7's had a clutch slave cylinder that darn near everyone forgets to service. While this bus is in for the "major steering redux", this bus's new owner would be well advised to take a good hard look at the mechanicals of the clutch circuit/system, a quick peek now will save a lot of heartaches further down the road!

The thing is when these buses start to age out to the fleet owners thinking of selling them off, they start to defer / forego maintenance in those twilight years of fleet use, so things like this are to be expected. The lovely 'fixable cruiser' early greyhound era stainless steel can make the mind go yonder...
@supertruckerextraordinaire

Exactly why rv’s should be DOT inspected and required to pull in to weight stations. Commercial drivers like me are held to a certain standard yet folks driving the SAME equipment mechancially are not. Ridiculous some of these are rolling around like that. Granted its good theyre fixing this one but how many never get fixed?
@dodgeguyz
@dodgeguyz 2 жыл бұрын
This is different. It’s an old bus with a ton of miles, so things get worn out. A weigh station won’t help with worn parts. I agree on the older ones needing to be inspected. But an actual RV doesn’t see the miles of an OTR truck with a million miles on it!
@supertruckerextraordinaire
@supertruckerextraordinaire 2 жыл бұрын
@@dodgeguyz i dont mean for the weight aspect of it. Just for the simple random inspections they should be subject to. I know most states require a yearly one but it isnt always enough. And vehicles that dont get a ton of miles can sometimes be worse because theyll develop the sitting problems that a constantly driven vehicle wont get sich as dry rot on air lines and tires and stationary trucks/busses tend to blow wheel seals.

For those who don’t live in the US, just be aware that there are large disparities in property taxes, business taxes and state income and sales taxes from state to state. I’m not even touching on local business licensing and regulation. Tennessee would be considered a very good place to set up and profitably run a small business like BGM, New York or California (for example) would not. Businesses remain in high tax jurisdictions because they service local needs (a plumber, for ex) or for the same reason that our ancestors emigrated and would up in the US or Australia - inertia and unwillingness to move.

It's amazing how just about every single bus you work on has the exact same suspension problems. I wonder just how many death traps are operating on the roads and highways in the United States. Having something that heavy and that old operated by a non professional driver is a recipe for disaster. This bus chassis looks pretty good. You would not find a mc7 in southern Ontario that can be made safe because of salt. The fact that the chassis is in that good of shape but is unsafe compounds the reason that non professionals need annual inspections just like the commercial buses. Were I’m from annual brake inspections plus bi annual full inspections . Commercial buses are inspected regularly plus drivers are reporting problems in between. Rv owners have no experience, they don’t even have to prove they are capable of driving their equipment. The reason why is tourism is a big market, and heaven forbid we try to make sure they are operating safely

There goes 20 Grand and I would service the engine and trans and fuel system. Those million mile busses they never keep the undercarriage clean and inspected and lubed like they should. My buddy has a Super High Pressure Undercarriage Power wash system that literally steams the rust and dirt off the bottom. He then applies a Special adhesive paint and a water repellant undercoat and makes it look new with a 7 year warranty. I have seen old nasty Busses come out looking Brand New. He got the Idea when he used to work for Greyhound as a Shop Supervisor. He charges $1995.00 and I swear they look absolutely new when finished. He does this to a lot of the High End Motor Homes. They also wash Busses and apply a ceramic coating and when finished gee they look good. His machine vibrates the High Pressure water and solvent and he recycles it. He says on a Old Greyhound Bus it could have 250 lbs of dirt and grime built up over time. Once finished he Lubes everything and you can eat off the engine and complete drive train. I saw a bus he did 5 years ago and water still will not stick to it and it looks amazing. Salt no problem.

I would like to know why RV's and bus conversions don't have to have yearly safety inspections. In Illinois they USED to have inspections for everything from pickups on up, but that has changed. Pickups no longer need inspections. There are a lot of junk pickups on the road that should be scrapped. I think ALL vehicles should have safety inspections.. There are so many cars with bad brakes, suspensions and so much rust that they would fold in half if in a wreck. This bus hasn't had service for YEARS.
