The MC275 may be the ultimate McIntosh amp - at least for Mc lovers. Driving Wilsons may be something I’ll only be able to listen to in a demo room - well beyond my budget. Still, It’s something I will look forward to someday down the line. I confess to having been a McIntosh fan since the mid-60s when I became familiar with McIntosh while attending Harpur College in Binghamton NY. At the time, my true love was the McIntosh FM tuner. It was my first audiophile experience while visiting a popular professor’s home listening to his incredible LP collection with other students. I still cherish the sound and the LPs we heard on those evenings over wine and cheese and long conversations about the conductors and performance practices of major orchestras of the 30s, 40s and 50s. Very sweet memories from my college days.

soon as I move to a place where I don't have to worry about disturbing the neighbors, I'm getting the MC275 with either C22 or C70(if still available). such a beautiful amp. bridged sounds very interesting. Thanks for the vid!

All their equipment is more than well worth it. My equipment was purchased in 1986 , and I still have it and I won’t part with it . To replace it now , is many times I paid back then. Its nice to have equipment that lasts a long time, and sounds fantastic keeps its value and increases in value as well. 😃🔉🎵🔈🥂🥂🥂🥂⚖️

Are you running on the 8ohm or 4ohm taps?
@robertgarrett59234 жыл бұрын
I think you mean that the MC275 is not in "bridged" mode, but that the outputs of the two sides are in parallel, with a common signal driving both sides in-polarity. This is the standard way of getting twice the power from a vacuum tube amplifier, with the output transformer outputs paralleled to the load. In this configuration, when driving an 8 Ohm speaker, the 16 Ohm windings would be paralleled, and with a 4 Ohm speaker, the 8 Ohm widnings would be paralleled. The MC275 might have the necessary strapping of channels done internally, but the result is the same. They call it "mono mode", but the channels are being paralleled. A bridged configuration as typically used in a solid state power amp quadruples the power, so that two 50 watt channels in bridged mode would yield 200 watts (assuming that the 50 watt channels can source the power and the power supply has enough reserve.

I got mine this week after about a 7 month wait. I was unaware that they were so much better when bridged and now I'm kicking myself for not buying two. I've got MC-1.25 KW's handling the bass section, but a pair of these on top would be awesome. :D

Because of the large number of units on display for a line like McIntosh , many stores cannot afford to have that much on display. So, comparing different units such as the recent Mac preamp discussion makes this channel unique. How many could also afford at the same time to have Dan D'Agostina products on display? Gives you a unique perspective.

I went with the C2600 pre amp paired with two Mc 275 Monoblock mk6's and then went with the Tannoy Ardens. After a few months I decided to add two Rel S/812 subs. Friends ask me all the time how can you spend so much money on a stereo? Honestly I dont know what to say to them but I don't ever regret doing it. In fact knowing what i know now i would do it again without hesitation. Everytime I turn it on it still amazes me on how good it sounds and it's going on a year now with no drop off.

Wonderful job on the intro sequence. The music is dreamy and zen, but at the same time lively and inspirational. Those feelings together with the shots of beautiful high-end gear makes me appreciate my listening sessions with my setup even more. And also gets me excited about new audio gear and listening journeys in the future. Keep up the great work! Cheers from Seattle!

The duette series1 can be placed up against a wall or placed in free space like any other speaker but in series 2 they designed it to go mainly up against a wall. I like playing around with mine it's fun to listen to it in a variety of different ways.

In terms of sound quality, soundstage and image, how does it compare versus the Prima Luna EVO400?
@staafk3 жыл бұрын
From what I have heard the PL EVO 400 are really good compared to McIntosh. And more worth the price. Sellers usually mention that some clients switch from McIntosh to PL but I guess that could be true the other way around as well due to individual preferences :) I have the PrimaLuna DiaLogue Premium HP Integrated amp which is the older version of the EVO 400 and it is a beast. I am powering Monitor Audio Gold 200 speakers and it is a great match. No ear fatigue that I have had with all other amps I have tested. But I have not tested any McIntosh amps so unfortunately I cannot make any comparison to that :(

Hi I am considering buying the 275 for Christmas. I owe a MA5300 and I'd like to know your opinion about to use the MA5300 Preamp section for the 275. I can not afford right now a dedicated preamp, maybe later. I owe a pair of Klipshorn. I hope the sound would be great but I am not sure of that paring..... Cheers!

I have the MAC6700 that I added a 275 for power. There was an improvement in clarity overall. It didn't do too well with very dynamic orchestral passages, but that's the only knock. All in all, it was a worthwhile upgrade

Hello, Would you be able to assist me in the following comparison? I have a MC240 paired to a C22 -preamp and Klipschorns. Very large living room with 10 foot ceilings. Do you think that I would experience a major difference in listening pleasure if I was to switch out the MC240 with a MC275 mVI? I am very pleased with my set up.I enjoy jazz and classic music at very average to low sound levels. Thank you for any comments that you may have in this regard.
@charlesnr4 жыл бұрын
In the vintage MI-75 they used the Sprague Orange Drop Mylar capacitor at the input, which did not help bass clarity. If one had an old amp, that is an easy change that could be made. Perhaps today, they have eliminated that cap and/or gone to more audiophile parts. In the 70's and 80's it was not uncommon to improve factory components by inserting better parts. CJ used to say that the cost of parts in a product was 20% off the cost.

Thanks for the video from another fan of old McIntosh amps. Looking forward to the Duette II review! I want to know if it's true it shows as much depth close to the wall as any good monitor placed way into the room. How could that be possible? Wilson magic?

What he doesn't mention around 6 min is that the old mk4 and 5 was a lot more reserved and dark and soft than the newer one. I think he wanted to say that. I think 275 through time has always been charming and interesting. But when you are like me used to the top tube sound that costs a lot more than this, then this still seems very old/limited and parked in a very safe sound. I prefer the EAR 8l6 compared to this, it is a tiny bit cheaper and has more character and is a bit more edgy, it is also more diva ish/sexy in sound like a demanding woman you still are attracted to. But if you want the more forgiving and old/safe tubby sound then take the mcintosh 275. 2 different personalities.

Beautiful amp, must sound great. But can you turn off those horrendous and tacky green leds? Who would want to ruin the beautiful warm glow of tubes with leds?
@skrads4 жыл бұрын
I agree with you. I recently discovered that when you plug a 12 Volt trigger wire out of the MC275 to power the Mcintosh D100 or whatever component, the green LED lights do not turn on. You only see the glowing Tubes after the amber LED lights check to make sure all is right with the amp. That was a pleasant surprise. When I unplugged the 12 V trigger wire, the green LED lights went back on. I am using the C2300 tube preamp as the main trigger power source and the preamp blue LED lights stay on in this setup unless you select to turn them off.
