Hi everyone! I'm an American from the Northeast (New England). I want to create a watering hole for people who want to discuss, learn and teach about history through KZbin videos which you guys recommend to me through the comment section or over on Discord. Let's be respectful but, just as importantly, not be afraid to question any and everything about historical records in order to give us the most accurate representation of the history of our species and of our planet!

Ohh yeah, a hole new rabbit hole for Connor to go down, The Carry On's. I watched one the other day for the first time in years, I was amazed how risque they were, considering they were repeated on a cycle every Sunday afternoon when I was a kid. But I suppose the charm of them was that they were rude but not crude. Up the Khyber is probably one of the best. The dinner table scene is a classic.

10:47 That fine comic actor, the late Peter Butterworth, has been in the news lately as his POW identity card from WWII was recently found. It turns out that Butterworth was on the escape committee two of the most famous escapes of the war, immortalised on film as "The Wooden Horse" and "The Great Escape". It was whilst Butterworth was a POW at Stalag Luft 3 that he met Talbot Rothwell, who would later go on to write most of the Carry On films, including the one in this video clip.

Peter Butterworth was also the very first Time Lord to appear in Doctor Who (now that they've retconned the Doctor actually being one 🙄) appearing alongside the (former) First Doctor William Hartnell who ironically played the titular character in the very first Carry On movie, Carry on Sergeant.

@@jjc5407 No, Butterworth wasn't the very first Time Lord to appear in Doctor Who. The Doctor graduated from the Academy and earned the title of Time Lord, just like the other Time Lords do. Nitpicking about the Chibnall era aside, history will always show that William Hartnell was ACTUALLY the first Doctor Who, and nothing has changed that, not even the Timeless Child and the Morbius Doctors... The latter are just fiction.

The French Revolution one was part of the very, very British Comedy Film Franchise’The Carry On Series! They where extremely British and very funny!

Don't Loose Your Head and Follow That Camel didn't originally have Carry On in the titles because of some legal dispute so technically weren't Carry On films when made.

Definitely recommend the Carry On Films, but as you've seen the clip from Carry on Don't Lose Your Head, start with that one. It is really funny, and my favorite. I think the costume Carry On's were the best!

@McJibbin , Connor the best british comedy you'll ever see by far is The Carry On films , there were 31 movies made from 1958 to 1992 . These movies are normally set around historical times in history with lots of slapstick humour and sexual innuendo's . My favourites are Carry On Up The Kyber , Carry On Cleo , Carry On Follow That Camel , Carry On Henry & Carry On Camping . I love all 31 movies but these are my top 5 . Once you've watched one you'll want to watch them all , i defo think these are your type of humour .

Just as you have your James Bond, as we all do, we also all have our own Dr Who, and mine does the voice over for the Fat Fighters sketches on Little Britain. Tom Baker the best Doctor.

@@dazediss6629 I've seen ppl do it over their own footage m8, like ppl who do travel guide type stuff. And while they're doing their talking part, they'll have some generic music playing at the same time they're talking. I've also seen channels that are the original copyright owners do it too. The main one being the FBI files type stuff, crime channels in general tho. Even watched a game developer showing a 30 min vid on how his game was progressing, couldn't concentrate the whole 30 mins because he had music playing over himself talking the whole way through. Ppl mainly do it because they think it makes the vid more captivating/interesting, not realising that only works at times when there's no audio to the vid they're showing, or to add a bit of drama when telling a dark story. It's like a new fad that ppl are doing without thinking about it, just because lots of other channels do it. Adding a bit of background music to a clip you don't own the copyright to, will not prevent you from getting a take down notice for breaching copyright.

A Danish comedian once suggested he should be buried with a sewing machine screwed to his head to confuse future archeologists. The joke was a clever pun that you'll never understand because it doesn't work in English, but I mention it to show you, Connor, that you aren't alone in not wanting to be turned into the powdery cream that we call ash.

Love your content Connor, but when I saw Miriam Margulies being featured at all, let alone for a second time, under this headline .. I just couldn't take it anymore. She's absolutely NOT representative of British humour, very rarely funny, and relies on her stuffy outrageous woman routine time and again. This is a very rare exception to how I see your content, but that woman has absolutely no place in the long and hilarious history of British comedy!!

i never found fawlty towers funny if i am honest it was always john cleese gets angry, the one who plays his wife brow beats him and he takes it out on manuel and polly tries to clean everything up i think? i have no idea on that last bit but basically in short cringe and some might say that is the point but for me i never been one for cringe humour dad jokes fine not cringe humour

That was a terrible compilation. The sketches etc were good but lost all impact in the way they were cut up, edited etc, totally out of context, with some of the best parts omitted and with background music throughout helping to ruin it too, even if it was the Monty Python theme tune.
