@@textman09 eeeehhhhh not really. I’ve walked into a few dealerships and no one comes to speak. Then when one guy eventually does, one of the first things they try and slip into conversation is “So,what do you do?” to see if it’s worth pushing the sales pitch. I get it, they get a lot of tyre kickers and day dreamers but a small amount of interest goes a long way. One that sticks in my mind is when I went to a local Mercedes dealership. No one took any notice of me apart from a young salesman. I was looking to trade my mk7 Golf R in for an A45 AMG. We talked numbers, the guy went and talked to the sales manager. He came back and said his sales manager didn’t think it was the car for me. It was quite funny to be fair, I said cool no problem thanks for your time. The funniest part was when three or four weeks later that very manager emailed me asking if I was still interested in an A45…I replied, no, not now, as I recently traded the Golf in for an RS3.

I don’t like Ferrari’s policy. The customer has to demonstrate his (or her) “worthiness” to own a new one, by first going used.
@MichaelM-to4sg4 ай бұрын
That’s not true. They will sell you a Roma or SF90, basically the entry level. I don’t know the story on 296, a friend has a 296GTS but that’s not his 1st Ferrari. They don’t sell the V12’s to newbs only because they are all presold and they prioritize prior ownership. If for some reason a V12 were to come available due to the original ordering buyer backing out, they will go to their list and sometimes prior owners to see if they want to trade up. If you only want a new V12 and you’ve never owned a Ferrari, they will put you on the list but your position will constantly be bumped by any previous owner ordering a car. It’s their policy, it’s been that way for years and years. My first Ferrari was a new 355, I ordered a newly announced 550 Maranello that same day. 2 years later I traded in my 355 when my Maranello arrived, exactly as I had ordered. I’ve also owned a Superamerica and 599SA. The last Ferrari I ordered was an F12TdF, which I ordered for a friend who wanted one but had no history so they wouldn’t take his order. The limited edition models always sellout within a day of order window and only to Ferrari owners. In that case, even though vehicle was being registered in friends name they actually required the wire from my bank, not his. I realize there’s a lot of animosity toward Ferrari sales practices but they are very transparent and the gross production is so low, especially relative to demand, that it’s understandable. It would be one thing if they hid their sales practices but being so transparent, I’ve got no problem with it.

As mentioned Ferrari doesn’t necessarily not want to sell new owners the higher end models, they just prioritize existing customers, even at the dealership level. I had a friend who worked at Miller Ferrari in Greenwich and her job was to basically just take existing customers out to dinner and what not (nothing illicit! But she was very easy on the eyes…). It was all about keeping customers coming back for more. There was a lot of money to be made doing this at the dealership level.

Ferrari ? What’s up with the philosophy at Ferrari ? Jay Leno tells a story about wanting to purchase a new Ferrari but he was told he HAD to buy 2 ‘lesser’ Ferraris in order to be ALLOWED to buy the new one he wanted. As a result he has said that he will NEVER buy a new one because of the philosophy that Ferrari follows. EVERY "63" model nowadays has a V8, the ONLY exception is the C63 (excluding the Coupe since it is no released and might come with a V8) which has the inline 4. You could have just went for another newer E63 IT STILL HAS THE V8 but does not have the electric motor support which a GT 63s PERFORMANCE has for example. It kinda blows my mind that u ran into a dealership which is so fkn clueless, there is literally only ONE exception of a "63 model" not having a V8 and they did not realize that, I would not buy a car there tbh if the dealer is that clueless.

When I "made it", I bought a Ferrari Testarossa simply because I loved the looks of that car. That was 25 years ago. I still own the car and have repaired/rebuilt every inch of it at some point in those 25 years. I know it like the back of my hand. I absolutely loathe Ferrari as a brand, most of the owners, and all of the dealerships. Bigger snobs you will never encounter. I live near Ogden Dave. I need to come see you.

You made a good decision. My only struggle is Mercedes has horrible resale value. I think Porsche and Ferrari are best at maintaining your original number.

I would rather see video about fixing cars, building motors and solving problems then whether or not you want to spend 400,000 dollars on a car that 99% of your fan base will never afford. Your multi-million dollar shop, where you came from and your real-world experience is what inspires your followers. Don't forget that.

I don’t think Dave needs a super car. He’s already super!

Im relieved you didnt spend so much money. Take the 400,000 and invest it into something better. (good for the world)

Two best days of Ferrari ownership.....The day you BUY it, and the day you SELL it !!!!!!!!!!!

Dave likely has the money, but he'd rather spend it on something that matters. Not to mention you spend a fortune on cars that can become sensitive. It's worse with Ferrari, "oh buy this car and that car own them this long to buy..." even funnier pay for it and get a cease and desist for modifications. I'm sure Dave went, $700k? You know how many fishing trips that will cost me?! No way!

I'm sure thinking about what decision will keep me moving in the direction I want to go. Even a car is part of that decision 👍. Thanks for the feedback

@@DavesAutoCenterCenterville no problem Dave. I know for me I'd rather have fun with regardless. The old saying of built not bought comes to mind. Those expensive high dollar cars aren't as fun as something that's more personal. Like I enjoy my current car a Chevy HHR SS, I love the look of the imperial blue metallic with 5 double spoked polished wheels. Just beautiful. I want another only to make into a beast. Having 260hp is fun, but a 400hp sleeper sounds more fun.

Sounds like it will be an awesome ride. A 60's or 70's version of american luxury would be uber cool. Big lincoln with a built BBF would be a sweet project.

Dave leave the benz dealer and go get yourself an Alpina BMW and thank me later.
