Thank you, Adam, just ordered one for myself. Have a PS3 Slim, this will be a great addition to full Metal Gear series play through (and not only). :) In fact, I've missed out on whole PS3 generation, and now I have a lot of catching up to do. Slap on top of it's jailbroken and can run ps1/2/3 games. Awesome!

For the Switch I am kinda considering getting this because most Switch games don't look too great on my 65 inch 4K TV. Games with resolutions lower than 1080p are very noticeable. Take Astral Chain for example, it's 900p and has jaggies. Wonder how much this thing would help.

Great video, but two things I think you should take note of: - While the footage looks pretty good, but I noticed that the Luigi's Mansion footage looked darker, specifically it looked like it was crushing the blacks. Also, on the Saturn and OG Xbox comparisons, the browns look a little more red than they should. - You said most Wii U games run at 1080p; this is incorrect, most are 720p like the PS3 and 360. Like the 360, the Wii U just does it's own internal scale to 1080p. For the Xbox 360, you'll need to figure out on your own which games are 1080p, but I can tell you every 1080p game on the Wii U is: Wind Waker HD, Twilight Princess HD, Super Smash Bros., Rayman Legends, and Darksiders Warmastered Edition.

I think that crushing blacks with Luigi' s Mansion might actually have something to do more with the color design of the game more than the cable.

If that's the case, than it shouldn't happen with the official component cables, and it doesn't seem to be caused by the GC HDMI by the comparison.

Just ordered one after watching this and seeing some videos from Marseille themselves showing off key Switch games that get a noticeable visual improvement from the mClassic. But one system I want to test it on, that I've never seen anybody mention and isn't even listed on the back of the box for probably obvious reasons, is the PlayStation TV/Vita TV. The Vita TV supported up to 720p same as the original Vita handheld, a lot of games run at that resolution. It's just a straight HDMI connection so it should work just fine and I'm curious to see what games like Persona 4 Golden and Freedom Wars look like with the mClassic plugged in.

Good review. Yeah this is great for my PlayStation classic and Xbox 360. I bought 2 of them. What sucks is the hdmi 1.4 standard. Trying to hook it up to a 4k tv doesn't work out well as it has terrible bandwith. Why they didn't make this hdmi 2.0 I have no idea. But it does a good job for retros and is way cheaper than the mcables I bought 2 years earlier.

Hi Adam! I use my fat PS3 for PS2 games. Just bought the classic. Which mode should I use? I’m assuming I should leave it in the middle for ps3 games and put it in retro mode for when I’m playing ps2 games? Thank you!

Set the PS3 to 720p mode. In the case of most games, put the mClassic in retro mode. Most PS2 games don't have native widescreen support.

Stumbled upon your video when searching about this. I bought one and it arrived yesterday. I can't see any difference in the Switch, at all. It makes Pokémon Colosseum and XD Gale of Darkness look AMAZING (ideal for my channel) but the Switch/PS4 don't look any different. How did you connect it to the Switch? Using the little HDMI extender that comes with it?

Adam, maybe you know the answer to this, I also emailed Marseille Inc. I have a RetroPi setup going to a 1600x1200 monitor (4:3) via DVI. Would the 4:3 mode work at that non-1080p resolution? IE HDMI has no problems adapting to it out of the Pi, but if that would work, there'd be (I suspect) a lot of interest from folks intentionally going for replicating older arcade games. (My monitor can swivel to rotate into a tall layout instead of wide, for example, depending on what is needed. And the pi is attached to the stand so it stays in place regardless of the monitor position.) Just a curious thought. If I hear back first, I'll let you know.

Uh, I think the retro mode only works with 480p sources. As in, only adjusts the aspect ratio to 4:3. Not sure though.

With a modded PS2, there's a way to burn games to disc with a patch for the resolution to get most games running in 480p, and another patch to get widescreen on games that don't support it or screw it up(like Bully). I have a modded PS2 and still don't wanna go through all that trouble. Basically, I guess PS2 diehards like me will have to wait for the Hyperkin Retrostation 2 in 5 years to get some companies competing for sexy PS2 resolution. Why do I love the crappiest looking console? Maybe modded PS3's will be more accessible in the future, those things are amazing.

Hey Adam, wanted to let you know that by using a homebrew booter called Swiss you can force 480p on the GameCube for technically unsupported games, much like the Dreamcast. There are still a few that don’t support it, but it’s allows a large majority to run in 480p. Great video!

I also agree that the PS2 is a terrible console in terms of image quality. Too many games on that system that only run at 480i. Random question, I am really excited for the Polymega mate. Can someone PLEASE help me out. I have the GCHD hooked up to my GameCube and I’m running the MCable Gaming Edition straight from that to TV. I plugged in the USB first, the the HDMI in TV, then HDMI in system. I’m getting NO signal on TV when powering on the Cube. Tried unplugging and replugging things a million times. What am I doing wrong? Defective cable?

@@catalyst7045 The mCable will work, the mClassic is just better. But I'm trying to narrow down possible reasons why it isn't working. So you have the following setup. GameCube --> GCHD --> mCable --> TV? The mCable has USB power. Does the GCHD have a red light on when the console is activated?

@@kennethcauliii2111 I highly suggest getting the appropriate hd retrovision component cables for your ps2, and the new retrotink 2x Pro from the retrotink website. That alone will give you great quality at 480p so any tv can handle the image well. If you want the extra step, get an mClassic or mCable Gaming Edition. This is the best user friendly solution unless you want to go OSSC which imo isn't really good for everyone.

@@kennethcauliii2111 if you want to get the best video, connect component to the retrotink, it outputs 480p over hdmi, then the mClassic upscaled the 480p to 1080p and adds additional anti aliasing. It's very noticeable on 3d games. On 2D art of do the same thing but without the filters on.

Hey! Firstly, your video is by far the best on KZbin as far as the mcable/classic products. I will be researching your channel way more. So thank you very much for all your time and effort that you put into this. Second is, what's the best way to do a personal comparison between the mcable (cinema) mclassic and standard? I tried the switch on 720p classic, 1080p standard and 1080pmclassic and I'm having issues differentiating from which is best. You said to try it for a while and then adjust it back and you'd notice the improvement. Is this true? I'm concerned about investing in the mclassic for an effect that may not be noticeable. Depends on your interests. The retro mode is quite nice for someone like me. If you have a 1440p monitor, then definitely.

Oh, about the Wii as a Game Cube: so with Wii component cables, you can easily output component at 480p. At the moment, I plug that directly into my HDTV, and it looks fine. I also have a RetroTink which, infamously, won't take a 480p signal, it won't even pass it through. Would I be better off running my Wii component cables through the RetroTink and then the mClassic with progressive turned off (outputting 480i component into the RetroTink)?

16;17 the problem with s-video is that it looks bad through capture cards, it only looks at it's best when viewed on a CRT and HDTV and when handling 240p content because 480i as nice of a resolution can look gross on HDTVs even through s-video and even with the XRGB mini sadly. but really s-video shines the most with 240p content on a CRT and on a high quality upscaler like the Frameister or the retrotinke(which is actually a line doubler).

Simulated 480p, it's line doubled 480i using the RetroTink and component cables.

Adam, you know how part of the screen is cut off when you’re using Behar Bros Gekko? Does this bring that portion of the screen back? Because I use to run my DC through Gekko and then use the extra HDMI port on that generic Chinese Scart to HDMI box(where you could change resolution) and it would give me the full DC picture.

It's not an issue for the Gekko specifically, it's Dreamcast related. Has to do with power cycling. Basically, to solve it, turn the console on before the TV

3 questions. So it does 1440p, but my TV doesn't do 1440p (dose 4k hdr). So if I wanted 1440p I would need to get a monitor that dose 1440p? Or will it force my TV to do 1440p? Also I need to know that can this work with HDMI switch box? I'm sure you know what it is.

I'm pretty sure your monitor would have to support 1440p. In my case, my 4K TV can't, so it just went to the highest supported resolution, 1080p. A switch box by Zetta works well.

I just have a question about how you use it for PS2. In comparison to using the Retrotink 2X with the older mCable for PS2 games, as you showed with Twisted Metal Head On, would you say this component/retrotink/mClassic combo delivers similar or superior results? And how consistent is it with a variety of games? That's how I want to use my PS2 for potential capture, since the various deinterlacing methods I've tried for a bunch of different of games vary in quality and compatibility. I'm sure you know that PS2 games deinterlace and scale differently depending on which game it is. Also, would you say that the HD Retrovision PS2/PS3 cables are superior to Sony OEM cables? I've got the PS3 style component cables, the ones with the silver color scheme, so I'm wondering which is better.

Same process as I did with the mCable, just use the mClassic instead. It's the PS2, results will always be...varied.

Question, could you plug the mclassic plugged into an HDMI switch with like 4 inputs, and one hdmi out to tv. have all your hdmi adapters going to your consoles.. and that way just switch between them without having to swap the mclassic into each different console when you want to play it? Forgive me if this is a dumb question. The concept of native resolution has always confused me particularly when it comes to the Nintendo Switch. Hypothetically speaking, if a Nintendo Switch game is 720p in handheld mode and 1080p docked, what is the actual native resolution that is included on the game card or file? Also, how does one determine the native resolution? I realize there are reddit posts that provide information on some individual games but I want to know is if there’s a program or some kind of voodoo magic that people use to figure out native resolutions. This seems important to know to get the most out of the mClassic.

Unfortunately it's very general. Most are native 720p and upscaled to 1080p. But there's, predictably, a lot of exceptions.

Thanks for your reply. It would be extremely helpful if game consoles had an “Original Resolution” setting that would bypass any upscaling. For example. Sonic All Star Racing Transformed on the Wii U runs natively at 576p. Wouldn’t it be great if we didn’t have to chose between 480p and 720p but just give the raw data to the mClassic to upscale? I have Blu Ray player that has an original resolution setting why can’t game consoles? I know I’m preaching to the choir.

Did absolutely nothing for N64 going thru RetroTink 2x on 85" 4K Sony. Just a hint of sharpening, which added some artifacts around the edges of letters. I could do that just by adjusting the sharpening on my TV. Quality of N64 with Rtink took a hit going from 55" 1080p to 85" 4K and thought I'd try it. I guess I'll have to get a RT5X.

Would using the mclassic work the same way to smoothen the image of Wii games on a Wii U? Since they are about the same price, I'm not sure if I should go for the cable or the classic adapter for better smoothing on low poly and old games.

Correct. You could connect the PS2 Pound Cable directly to the mClassic. But given how awful that cable is, this would be highly not recommended.

Probably the Hyperkin cable, but understand you're giving a poorer sourced to the mClassic to work with so you won't get as good of results as you would on a Wii U.

I saw there are some of the dongle type converters that keep the source native without upscaling. Just taking the source and making it digital. I didn't know if that was a better option. One thing I noticed using the hyperkin is sometimes I'll get a single grey horizontal bar that will trail down the screen. When you mentioned the hyperkin doesn't give the best signal, I immedialty wondered if those were related.

It's not about the resolution, it's more about adding additional errors that weren't there originally. The cheap Chinese Wii2HDMI units did that. I haven't tested the Hyperkin ones, but given their reputation I wouldn't expect much better.

I have an ultra hdmi n64, a 360, a ps3 and a wii-u so I'll get some benefit from those out of the box, but it sounds like mixed results from the ps2, gamecube and the xbox, which I have a lot of games for, and being in a PAL region won't help

Yes, it still does, but obviously it caps at 1080p if that's what your monitor supports.

Uh, interesting question. I think in that case you'd want 720p and it likely would just give you an enhanced 720p. Personally, I would never use 1080i.

So quick question. I have the Dol-001 gamecube. If I basically get an retroprism plus the mclassic it should make the image of the gamecube games not look so muddy as well as take out jaggy edges??? Does it really change it to 1080p??? I have a lg 65inch oled . Hoping it improves the image with the retroprism plus the mclassic. I currently play my gamecube games on a wii. Hopefully the combination will make it look better then that.

Generally it depends on the game. I personally set the Wii U to 720p for Wii U specific content and 480p for Wii specific content. But there are games that natively run at 1080p on the Wii U. So it's best to Google the resolution of a given game before playing.

Hi Adam, great video! I just recently purchased an mClassic and super64 for my n64 HOWEVER, I wanted to try using the mClassic for my PS1 games. I currently play my PS1 games on my PS2 using RGB component cables using smooth texture mapping. Would it be better to play my PS1 games on the PS3 PLUS mClassic? That's personal preference. Personally, I'd use a PS3. Set the PS3 to 480p when playing PS1 games. Then let the mClassic do the upscaling.

Need help with this mclassic. Hdmi original xbox adapter to hdmi switch box then mclassic to TV. All I get is startup screen. Then no signal. Saturn, same setup constantly dips out. Black screen flash every 5-10 seconds. Switch, 360 are fine. WiiU flashes black maybe once 30 minutes. Whats the problem? Can't find answers. Bad mclassic? Switch box is fine without.

Generally that's because of poor signal strength from the Xbox adapter and so on.

Yes, though it's about the middle piece. With the PS2, I suggest connecting the RetroTink. But the PS2 will never look amazing. VHS, same problem. You can try the 480p forcing, but as that's unstable at best I don't know what kind of results you'll get.

Honestly, it boils down to opinion. I think the RetroTink handles PS2 better because of its smoothing feature that the Framemeister doesn't have. I can't say how either would handle VHS though.

Is there a way to use this with ps2 to play one of the rare 480p games (GT4) on a TV with only HDMI inputs? I have a retrotink 2x classic and the mclassic on order, but I guess I can't use the retrotink with that game. Is there another option less than $100 to get ps2 passed through to HDMI in native 480p (and then through the mclassic)? I'd hate to not be able to play that game (or my SOCOM games). Thank you!!!

Honestly, nothing good. You would need an alternate component to HDMI converter that supports 480p. But most of them aren't very good.

Otherwise I have no way of playing the game at all on my new TV. Stinks to have to spend another $35 after just ordering a retrotink and mclassic - just because of a couple 480p games, lol. GameCube with an HDMI mod is identical because the GCHD and the board mod is basically the same stock. Meaning the mClassic results you see in this video would apply. The others I can't really say. I briefly had an HDMI Modded Dreamcast that I showed with the mCable, but I didn't have an mClassic at the time. I've seen an HDMI Modded N64 run with it in person, it looked great. However I haven't tested this myself, nor has it been tested with an mClassic The Wii mod, definitely can't say as I've never even seen one.

@@josemsanchez80 I got the M classic a few weeks ago, I am using it on a PC gaming monitor and it makes my PS4 games ( combined with the monitor ) look like a PS4.5. I have tried it with the PS3 and XBOX 360 and it makes them look super clean and sharp and gives them a great updated image overall. I am actually getting my old XBOX ONE out and going through the store to pick up 360 and original XBOX games to enjoy them all over again with a improved look to them over all. Its expensive BUT the next gen machines are going to be hard to find for a while, and so why not grab something that will make you want to play your old games all over again with a new coat of paint on them.

Man, I've been watching your Channel from more than 5/6 years and you are allways talking about how to have the best video quality of your consoles but your videos have the same quality from years ago and nowadays it looks bad and blurry. You need to update your camera or use your phone (that videos looks infinitely superior than your normal videos). A couple things you should probably know to avoid confusion: In the context of digital video, "Buffering" does not mean "to shine up/improve" like you seem to think. It means "to come between" or "hold then forward." When you stream online video and it buffers, it means that a buffer (hold) is filling with data and it will begin playing that data when it has filled to a certain point. This is similar to what a frame buffer does when transmitting or displaying digital video. The image being transmitted line-by-line is transferred/stored into a buffer until it can be assembled into a complete frame and then either processed, displayed, or retransmitted. In short, buffering=delay, not enhancement. Most enhancements require buffering of at least one full frame which is why a framebuffer is considered a bad thing for latency (OSSC has none, Framemeister does). Next, "depth" has nothing to do with color enhancement. Color depth is how many bits were used per-pixel to specify a color. That is internal to the game's rendering engine or graphics hardware and does not change no matter what you do after the source image has been created. Whatever it does to the color should absolutely never be described as "increasing color depth." When someone talks about "deep blacks" or whatever it has absolutely nothing to do with color depth either but I can see where such phrasing might lead you to think so. These are two things I hear you say in most videos about these things which really undermine and distract from what you are trying to explain so I hope you incorporate these two small suggestions.
