Great commentary! I love the depth! I will say Blissey definitely softboils there because if gengar taunts you both have lost your turn anyway so you haven’t changed the game state. But I think that means that as gengar you have to taunt? But that’s only if you can prevent Blissey from healing later. So going for the freezes was probably the way if swampert earthquake doesn’t get you there

I think BIHI was going for the Double Edge crit there. The only other play for BIHI would have been to go into Zapdos on the Psychic but then Claydol would recover a bit more health, and after that McMeghan goes into Blissey, uses Softboiled and BIHI still needs a Double Edge crit to get passed Blissey. I believe this position is slightly worse than staying in with Aero.

Refresh Claydol is... borderline necessary if you're not going to trap Skarmory. But at that point you also need to pressure Drill Peck Skarmory. In my view, you're forced into Refresh Rapid Spin Psychic and HP Fire. It really feels like the best spinner in the game with that set. However, you can see how difficult it'd be to accept it not being as effective as a conventional Claydol in plenty of other situations.
