Climbing England's Highest Mountain: Scafell Pike
Join me on my first ever ascent of Scafell Pike - England's highest mountain, standing at 3,209ft or 978m above sea level.
This was a first for me and something which has been on my "to do" list for many years, I was pleased to finally get to do it. An 03:30hrs start meant I was able to be on the mountain for about 7am and beat the crowds which this mountain draws in, especially in Summer.
As conditions on the summit showed, I was very glad I had brought a hat and gloves - demonstrating just how different things can be from valley level. The wind chill made it very cold indeed.
Please help the local Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team, by being prepared before trying this and making sure you have the correct equipment and a map and compass.

I remember hiking from Landgdale to the campsite near the Wastwater Inn with my friend Derek from the Merchant Marine Radio College in Preston in the 70's. The rain was blasting sideways as we crossed the high top just before dropping down into Wastwater and we decided to take shelter in the rocks to our left and we made a brew just lying in the rocks with the rain blasting over our head whist we were cozy in our crevice. Magic just to lie there, have a cup of tea and just watch the rain whistling over our heads but missing us. We met a farmer looking after his sheep up there and he made the hike up top twice a day. He was just up there with no concern for the weather which had changed to cloud by then leaving only around fifty feet visibility. Stopped and had a chat with him. We did Scafell the next day in the rain and got soaked again as waterproof were not water proof then. We dried out in the pub that night. Awesome.

What an absolutely beautiful video. The drone footage and the soundtrack went hand in hand. Im 57 now, thought I was bound to be an armchair explorer but you have inspired me to get out again and enjoy the outdoor which I always used to as a kid. I brought my kids up doing just what you are doing now and you are right, although only one out of the three still goes wild camping and has a passion for the outdoors. I remember Scafell vividly from when I did 3 peaks in 2015, whilst the smallest it's definitely the hardest! The scrambling was out of this world, especially with the weather conditions at the time

Awesome! Brings the memories flooding back. I did the scramble up the Mickeldore semi by mistake and it wasn't too bad (hot summer's day) and I was on my own rather than the main path. I got overtaken by a local farmer type in a was coat (I was wearing shorts and t-shirt) and he wasn't even breaking a sweat. Met him again at the top of the Mickeldore coming across from the Pike to Sca Fell. Then so Chinooks flew over the summit when I was up there. Will have to get back in the hills when my boys are a little older. Low level walks for me and the family for now. Totally agree with getting children outdoors and off their screens. Just found your channel and will be watching more.

Quality mountain day Chris 👍. You had the mountain pretty much to yourself too for the most . It's a great location. For the last 10 years weve been ascending the mountain from Great Moss on the other side following the Esk up and finally up Little Narrowcove. It's a great route. Have a look at that one next time if you fancy a change. Some great camping and swimming spots in the valley too 🙂👍. Cheers, Rick

I’m up there for 2 nights in Aug camping at the Wasdale National Trust site so I’ll be doing this....such a great hike up there.
