Surprisingly, every time I broach the subject I am assailed with the usual lame and predictable excuses and litany of flerfer-approved buzzwords and accusations. But there's a group of people (flat earthers) who don't believe 24 hours of daylight actually happens in Antarctica. Could you just clarify what you said at 7:46. There's an occasional assault. There was sort of a murder mystery at the South Pole Station. No one knows for sure if it was a murder. There are lots of accidents and injuries just due to the dangerous nature of the work and the environment. The year that I was there a profesor died while mapping crevasses in the ice when he found one with his snowmobile.

A plausible explanation why some people at McMurdo had "attitude" with being on camera: Their work could be classified. Years ago I was enrolled in a college computer class, where one of the other students was a middle-aged woman, whom the instructor was previously acquainted with, and the subject came up about her working for the National Science Foundation at McMurdo. I was seated next to that woman, and in all following conversations I had with her throughout the quarter, she was vague about McMurdo, as her work there was classified.

Was trying to figure out some of the areas you were in. Use to be two buildings for birthing overlooking the Ice Per. Did recognized the chow hall but looks a bit more modern. Didn't see the power plant we built in 82 down low on the bay. I was a industrial Electrician but no maintenance shop to work put of. We did have a Line shack down on the roads edge close to the fuel tanks. If you have time do a walk around video showing the base today. Guess the desalt plant is still up on knob hill with gravity feed outflow. I also took care of the heat tape system on all the water distribution lines and sewage out fall lines. You know, I was there for one summer and one winter. Although it is pitch black 24/7, -70F, 50knot - 120 knot winds, very secluded 120 people total opposed to 600-800 during summer (which I prefer having the elite few with me because you quickly know who everyone are and those people aren't "first timers" for the most part), But, after all that you do have the southern lights (Aurora's), 1 plane that comes the entire time of winter, and better food since they don't have to cook for as many (but since we don't have any mail or any shipments of fresh food the entire time except one plane after 4 months after winter starts), and finally the parties are cool like mid Winter dinner.

@@FallofftheMap I’ve been in that war. When I worked at a park department a decorative fountain started tripping the gfci receptacle. The boss over the plumbing told the plumber to disconnect the fountain from the gfci and plug it into a regular outlet. When I found out I went over and cut the cord so it would not get plugged in. The plumber boss reported me and they put me up for termination. I called my electrical inspector and he came for the pre termination meeting. At the meeting my inspector asked the plumber boss how much electrical education do you have? The answer was none. My inspector asked. How can you who has no electrical experience make electrical decisions over a person that has over 30 years and is licensed in two states. Case closed! @FallofftheMap3 жыл бұрын
That’s a pretty different thing than the authority having jurisdiction also being the client on projects located in places like Antarctica or even a Afghanistan. RAHUL TAWARE no one lives there permanently. The maximum you can stay at the US operated stations is 14 months before they make you leave for health and psychological reasons. McMurdo Station had about 150 people in the winter I was there and almost 1000 people in the summer. Most are just support staff for the scientists and maintenance workers like myself. I suggest you research McMurdo Station. There is even a live camera feed from the station, though it’s winter there (dark 24 hours a day) so the camera won’t show much until around late September when the sun come back.
