Its just unnatural. Controlled aerodynamics like this will break ground effect over bumps. While its very fast in a turn. Because it relies on manipulating ground effect. I keep telling the Mercedes team that they barely need any aero on their Ground Effects F1 cars. Silverstone cct would be the perfect high speed track to go for a low aero drag, high Ground Effects setup. I have a huge respect for your driver .. he must be super committed . Brake systems in cars are made so they’re split, with one hydraulic system working the front right and rear left wheel, and the other running the opposite corners. If one loop experiences a leak and stops functioning, the other will still work. The use of wheels on opposite corners helps keep the car going straight.

I wouldn't say that only an aircraft engineer could come up with a redundant system for a race car. For most cars redundant systems are not neccessary, or completely impractical, though there are still a lot of redundant systems, such as brake systems. But the problem with a fan car is that if you are pulling 3g's around a high speed corner and the fan fails, you are going to suddenly be ploughing straight, potentially into the nearest wall at very high speed. This is a major safety issue, and part of why they were banned in F1. I would say it's just due dilligence from the designers to include two fans into the design, though overall, the engineering of this car is indeed super impressive.

@@basilb4733 You have to remember that even traditional downforce is still technically powered by the engine since the engine is what's producing the speed needed to make it work. The fans on the other hand can be turned on or off as needed, and still work at low speed corners, where as traditional aero needs high speeds to be effective

This car sparked some new ideas in my mind. If you had a vacuum sealed chamber for each wheel you could reduce the wheel when resistance but tire temperature management would be more challenging but not impossible using radiation heat transfer. The suspension could be made much softer this way with the load applied directly to the wheels.
@user-fq8io4rp5d
@user-fq8io4rp5d Жыл бұрын
That has no much sense. 1. The smaller chamber size, the smaller downforce. 2. All the weight of the car, including generated downforce goes to the ground through 4 wheels. Not depending on what part of the car generates those forces.

So would there no advantage to trying to shape the fan area in such a way that you could still have a large diffuser volume and front diffuser with flap like now newey’s X2014 has it? Does it get to a point where more downforce doesn’t actually help performance because you end up with more mechanical drag and the tire can’t use the extra load anyway? I’d love to hear more about the skirts, and how long they last and I really wanna see images of that van haha.
@BSport320
@BSport320 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, me too. They talked about ceramic plates which they can drop. Would love to see that. Of course you can shape the rest of the car so it produces additional downforce, but like I said in the video, they fully relied on the fans at the beginning and just recently discovered that it would be good to have some traditional downforce too. For the underbody flow there would be the centre vacuum area in the way, but you could still generate downforce along the sides and guide the flow to the diffuser.

@cademckee7276 2 жыл бұрын
@@BSport320 Yeah my thought would be basically copying a 2022 F1 floor but instead of a plank have a vacuum sealed area behind the keel. Of course with a car this small that probably isn’t practical in terms of packaging. I can’t believe they say the next car they make will be smaller. Still it’s refreshing to see in a era of race cars getting longer and longer for aero.

Absolutely brilliant. A modern well designed and thought out car to rival any combustion engined car. I was down by the start line at goodwood when the car took off and it was genuinely crazy fast. What that thing is like to drive is beyond imagination. I can only imagine it was a massive adrenaline rush. But witnessing it in the flesh and seeing it fly past was unreal. I think this is one that's going to take some beating and like the original Murray F1 it will be a game changer. Definitely one to watch.

Sadly, human nature resists the unfamiliar. I'm sure people said the same thing 120 years ago when cars appeared & that they were soulless machines lacking character compared to their horses. So many have rushed to dismiss electric cars because of their (lack of) sound because we have always equated loud engines with high performance. Car enthusiasts should be excited about high-performance electric cars because the politics of the "Climate crisis" will soon end production performance ICE cars & racing in many countries & considering what cars like the McMurtry/Rimac/Tesla have accomplished at such an early state of electric performance car developement, the future is boundless....rejoice.
