McNally Smith's Artist & Industry Presents: Brian Gallagher

Accomplished saxophonist Brian Gallagher visited campus to perform and impart career advice at our weekly Artist & Industry seminar on January 29, 2016 - just five weeks before he died unexpectedly of a pulmonary embolism. This was only the fourth appearance by his new quartet, and it is believed to be one of his final recorded performances.
Gallagher was beloved across the Twin Cities music community. His inspired, tasteful musicianship and easy camaraderie with his bandmates is evident in this video, as is his thoughtfulness towards up-and-coming generations of professional players. We are deeply saddened by his passing, and our thoughts go out to his family and friends.

My beloved cousin Brian, just so miss him and really get to hear him express his musical thoughts here! Please hope you took a minute to listen through. He lived with his craft with so much love and understanding, and acknowledges the generations of the up an coming AND the respect for everyone in it. That is such an incredible feature of his integrity and always being open to everything...a perfect fit for where he is... It's just who is is.... So proud to be a part -

My condolences, So sad, why does this even happen, he had so much inspiration and love to give, and he did not even get gray hair. I would have loved to ask him about his tenor setup, now and back in the Prince & Rosie Gaines session in 1993. That monster solo in "Nothing compares to you" is the best I´ve ever heard in Rock music. This man is a legend! Does anybody out there know any details? Mouthpieces? I´m sorry. After listening to Brian I´ve decided to eat lunch with my colleagues again, for social reasons. And to be over-prepared in my work. Lesson learned!
