I have a system similar to the Nordfab piping here in my HS shop, it's great to be able to move our equipment around if needed or be able to break a connection when a student loses a piece of wood or tool in the system. 🤦🏻‍♂🤦🏻‍♂

Matt you'll likely get better fine separation if you have at least 2 gates open. 500 CFM isn't enough for the cyclone to throw small particles out of the airflow. More air equals higher velocity in the cyclone action which means particles get thrown out easier. I have a tall cyclone and when running my drum sander I make sure to have at leas 2 other ports open to make sure the cyclone gets maximum air.

What a plot twist, never saw if coming! One second the flow tester was there and the next it was gone!!! Matt isn't flustered at all, where did that thing go! I laughed so hard tears were rolling down my face. Is it in the bin, nope! Maybe if I reach my arm up this tube, nope! Let me check that bin again, nope! Hilarious, we've all been there! If you create a wall mount cantilever set up to replace that lid, you can just pull the drum out freely without the current struuugle with clamp and alignment. As long as you position the drum in the exact place, the horizontal drawer will rest down on the top of the drum and vacuum will do they rest. Picture drawer slides mounted vertically. I position my drum with floor mounted cauls.

Matt, great shop! If you want to spoil yourself some more, you should check out GRIT Automation. We can automate all of your Nordfab blast gates or any new or existing metal blast gate. With manual gates it's very easy to have one open that shouldn't be. With GRIT you just turn on a tool and the entire system configures itself, as well as turning your collector on and off automatically. Gives you more time to work instead of checking your gate configuration and turning collector on each time you use a tool. GRIT also creates a level of safety by giving you the ability to lock and unlock your shop tools with the press of a button. This is great if you have curious kids that like to press the buttons. Much more to GRIT but just wanted to let you and others know we exist. Thanks!

Matt, I put in that exact same system 2 years ago based on Marc Spagnuolo's similar video and have never looked back. Absolutely the best available. Just so you don't feel bad, when I first tested my system, I accidentally sucked up a 25-ft tape measure that was laying on the top of my table saw. And yes, I, too, had to dig it out of the drum. Great video, buddy.

Hi Matt...gotta agree with B Seely's comments on the anemometer...that was so unexpected and your suprise and comments just added to the fun. I really enjoy your channel and am looking forward to future videos while I catch up on the past ones. I binged your mill build and was amazed at your level of knowledge and expertise. That's great. I feel like it is a rite of passage for anyone with a Clearvue system to suck up a tool. Usually it seems to be a tape measure first but I guess an anemometer is fitting as well. Keep an eye on the blue plastic mounts that hold the motor up. Every single one of mine cracked after a few months of use. I replaced them with pieces of 1" x 1/8" steel flat bar and haven't had any problems since.

Hilarious! I was doing some stuff the other day using the CNC as a work surface. I forgot to turn off the gate and it sucked up a shop rag. I was looking around for about 5-minutes before I got a new rag, having no clue what happened to the first one. Then I saw the second one get sucked up. LOL I have an Oneida V3000 and ran it for about 2 years off of 4" flex hose. I just upgraded to 6-7" metal duct and the improvement is MASSIVE. I finally have proper DC and it's incredible. I wish I could have afforded the Nordfab, but all my ducting and fittings from Blast Gate Co. was $1,100. Nordfab was going to be about 3x the cost.

Matt, got an interesting idea for you of how to repurpose your wood dust instead of just throwing it out into the woods. I'm into growing mushrooms at home using grow kits I order online. Thinking of stepping up to creating my own substrate which is predominantly hardwood dust or pellets. If you and your wife are mushroom lovers, it's a real cool hobby and relatively easy to do at home. There are a ton of DIY videos on KZbin of how to do this at home. Or you can reach out to others in your area who are into it and would love to take your sawdust off your hands for you. Last option would be you could "seed" your property for gourmet edible mushrooms by inoculating the sawdust with cultured mushroom mycelium before you dump it into the woods, thus introducing different edible mushrooms around your property that you could then go out and pick them naturally. Get a food dehydrator and you can keep them for a long time before using them in your cooking. Mushrooms are extremely healthy and many have medicinal properties.

You should have Donovan build you a shop or a barn and for the siding you can use some of the wood that you harvested from when go pick up big tree trunks. Also, you have a lot of land to use up. You can put the telehandler in there, the skid steer, and the logging trailer.

Almost seems obvious but, bolt on a couple stamped steel handles on the collection drum. It would facilitate sliding it out from under the funnel, since space tolerance is tight. Just a thought. BTW, the anemometer getting sucked in was hilarious. Had to go back and watch it again. Your reaction was priceless. Keep the kids away from that thing or you'll be digging them out of the drum. Hahaha.

In the shots of the paper and meter recovery, you can see that clear rectangular section at the inlet to the cyclone deform significantly. (Not an expert on this, but...)I think the impeller wants a lot more air than it's getting and that seems to translate to being able to have multiple blast gates open at once with little change to the performance. yes? no?

Hey Matt! why not keep all the dust and make brickets with it? get some kind of compressor ... the "New Yorkshire Workshop" built one, but I am sure can buy a hydraulic briquette press some where. They are good for wood burning in a fire place or wood burning stove.

To avoid the worry about having the vents open or closed you can run a wire and have an automatic system that opens and closes per tool being run. Really quite nice, might not be needed as much with the smaller shop and what not but could still be helpfu.
