I loved the “Gene Parmesan” comment from Eric. The whole story is something I can heavily relate to. I love my step child but I won’t take her to a movie theatre until she’s about five and understands the whole concept of “sit and be quiet” Kids just can’t do that and it doesn’t help that the parent in the story didn’t seem to have regard for how big Endgame would be to some people who don’t want to listen to your kid making sound effects and talking the entire movie.

Loki's death in Infinity War traumatized me... the neck snap, oh man, that sound is still engraved in my mind. Also the fact that it happened in the first 10 minutes of the movie was shocking. I honestly believed that Loki would be along for longer and play an important part in the fight against Thanos. It was also really heartbreaking to see Thor's reaction and hearing Thanos say "No more resurrections this time". I knew he (and Marvel) meant it and the worst part is that I tried to trick my mind for THE LONGEST time that Loki wasn't dead and somehow tricked his way out of it. But deep down, I knew it was real... Wish that they had did more with his character, but still grateful for the Loki series

@@lifeisrosyy in the mcu timeline, he is officially dead. In the Loki series, we see the Loki from 2012 (the New York attacker, mind controlled by Thanos) take the tesseract and escape, therefore changing the timeline. So yes, the mcu Loki from Thor: Ragnarok and Infinity War is really dead. But due to the Loki series and the branching of timelines there’s another version of Loki (TVA Loki) who’s not dead. There’s multiple timelines now, so even if the original mcu Loki is dead, there’s still a lot more of Lokis out there (as we see in the Loki series)

I think Gamora's death would have been my number 1 simply because there was no honor in it. She didn't go looking for a fight, she didn't want to sacrifice herself. She was _being_ sacrificed against her will. We see the moment of awareness before it happens, we see her fight, we hear her yell "Dad!" in one last plea for mercy, and we see her unceremoniously flung off a cliff with her arms reaching out for purchase and only grabbing empty space. It was fucking brutal and yes, she's a hero, but she had FEAR. That was a gut-punch for me in theaters.

I agree, me and several friends where actually upset about it because we agreed with Gamora’s statement that “this isn’t love” because even if it’s a “father-daughter” relationship it’s an abusive relationship and it basically justified it because her abuser, the murder of her mother and her people “loved” her

I'm actually obsessed with Shane's #1 (and Erik's #4) pick because it really made me wonder how many fridged mothers and wives get treated as disposable with almost no reverence or respect in their deaths. There are obviously exceptions like Natasha and Gamora, but I'm interested in why these picks were mostly male characters in big impactful scenes. Though, not all their picks were for plot or emotional impact reasons (the commitment to everyone choosing some hilarious picks was amazing). I guess it could just be statistically more likely because the genre is still so male-dominated, but it'd be interesting to do analysis on...
@deprofundis32932 жыл бұрын
Interesting point. I want to also add that it was strange to me that neither Gamora nor Natasha were mentioned here. It's not a serious analysis, though, so I totally get that. But I guess I felt like both of their deaths were just....I don't know...barely recognized at all in the film. Especially disturbing were the abusive undertones with Thanos and the implication that he DID love Gamora. Sorry, but you don't kill someone if you truly love them. That depiction really bothered me.
@PineappleLiar Жыл бұрын
So as far as female character deaths in the MCU there are two major variants: unimportant offscreen and plot contrivance cul de sac. Trying to write out why with all the particulars though just makes me realize more that I hate they made a while planet whose sole purpose was to kill off important female characters, and have their deaths contribute to the progression of the plot in the most shallow way possible. Sure, you can say ‘well Natasha made the decision to sacrifice herself over Hawkeye’ but maybe…. Just a thought…. The heroes do what Thanos refuses to consider and decide that no one has to die. Or just anything besides the almost comical fight to see who could take a long fall with a short stop first. It’s not a character decision it’s a fucking toll booth that says ‘pay 1 major character in order to pass’.

I love how everyone treated this prompt as a completely different assignment. Erik seemed to treat it like Dead Meat Kill Count's Golden Chainsaw Award, Ryan seemed to treat it as the most emotionally affecting deaths (tbh I assumed this was the prompt), and Shane treated it like... deaths that he was the most glad about, or tickled by. All of which I respect tremendously, except Ryan's because I do not find the MCU to be emotionally affecting, ever. Also as someone who hasn't watched a Marvel property since Winter Soldier (and not many before that either), it's a mark of how much I love the boys that I watched this despite the inevitable frequency of me going "who the fuck is that".

I’m surprised Black Widow didn’t make anyone’s list. When she was Vormir with Hawkeye was one of the most badass deaths scenes there are

it was because hers was so poorly done there was no sense of finality. It seemed like she was coming back towards the end

"Nothing brings friends closer together than MURDER." As an Agatha Christie fan, especially of the Marple and Poirot stories, can confirm that close friendships are formed when someone is murdered. You kinda expect the opposite.

I’m surprised that nobody listed Gamora. Her death had so many emotional effects on the other members of the Guardians, and even Thanos himself. Also, I almost listed Pietro on my list as well, but only because I live the comic character of Quicksilver so much and it was so disappointing to see him killed off without getting anywhere close to his comic book self.

not only gamora but natasha and the ancient one too

See, I think Vision's death is one of the best. I don't mean when his body dies. I mean in Wandavision when he "dies" to Wanda. I know that isn't death in the sense of life leaving his body. But he had the embodiment of Vision's soul, even if it was made from Wanda's magic. Wanda letting go of that, plus 2 kids, that's huge and impactful and shows that you can't let your grief hurt other people too.

@@emilyraggett1581 I kinda agree with him. Bucky is a sad character but he borders the line between boring and serious a lot.
@ErieMaxwell2 жыл бұрын
@@emilyraggett1581 Honestly, I kind of agree with him, at least considering they weren't including shows. I think Bucky has a ton of potential and I love him in the comics, but the movies don't really DO anything with him personality-wise, at least not yet. Maybe they will in the next stage of films though!

One of the most incredible acting moments in the entire MCU is right after Spiderman dies and Tony Stark looks away, distraught, unable to process what just happened, and he begins to wipe his hands clean of Peter's ashes and then looks down in horror at what he's done. What a brutal, tiny moment that shows how Tony's brain hasn't processed what is going on and then everything hits him at once. What a mindfuck, and what an outstanding performance by Robert Downey Jr.

Ryan’s story about the lil kid in the theatre had me in tears. 😭😂 It’s both so sad and so funny. And hey, my first thought when they were talking about why didn’t the parent(s) tell their kid to be quiet? I’d be willing to bet that kid has probably been obsessed with Spider-man for a while now, and he’s probably just as loud and excited about it at home. That parent might’ve been sitting back laughing about their kid’s reaction as much as Ryan was. 😂😂

I'm super surprised that Erik didn't have that flagsmasher Nico who got violently merced by John Walker on his list cause that was a hella wet death! That being said, Erik is a joy and I really hope he comes back in some following projects.

That death was definitely on my list. I don't think there's a death that was motivated by pure hatred in the MCU till that one and to see the blood on the shield..... brutal. My mouth was open in shock when I saw that. Spiderman in no way home seemed like he was about that life but thankfully he was talked down.

i read somewhere that peter parker felt the entire 'dusting' bc of his spidey-sense, so he felt the pain and that's why he was telling tony he didn't wanna go, while the rest of the people who got snapped just left '´peacefully' and I'm not the same since then idk if it actually makes sense, but is still a sad concept
