Knowledge Points Don't Scale! | Brighter Shores XP Scaling and What to Spend Your Knowledge On

Hello! In this video I cover how xp scaling for levels, skills, and knowledge points work in Brighter Shores works, and what that means for what you should be spending your knowledge points on. The entire video takes place in a google spreadsheet, so make sure you buckle up for this thrill ride!

There is apparently another xp bump at level 200, where each level requires 4x as much xp, but also knowledge gives 1/4 as much xp (6.25% vs. 25%). This evens out so that knowledge will continue to be the same value no matter what the skill level is, despite the fact that these later levels will take 4x longer to level up.

That's a huge shift/decline, kind of disappointing honestly. Hitting 200 is going to go from easy mode to getting absolutely dragged through the mud.

Good thing to mention is that XP potions work with the knowledge point xp boost. I always take one before claiming the XP. You get 5% extra of the 25% you get (so 26.25% of a level)

One thing to keep in mind with the combat skills is that you get combat penalties depending on how much you outlevel the mobs you are grinding which should be taken into account as well.

Definitely feels like some of the professions could use a boost to the amount of knowledge you get, or at least something to help.

Combat gives you 3% per enemy which is slow but easy, gathering and processing give you just under 1% per action with gathering being faster and processing being easier. Basically it linearly scales based on how much effort you put in, with combat being the slowest and easiest and gathering being the fastest and most intense.

More of this please. First person I have seen explain why it feels like I am running into a wall on level-up speed at level 20. Also find it very interesting that actions/level are roughly consistent after level 20. I was worried that after the level 20 wall, each level would get progressively slower, but that doesn't really seem to be the case.

I enjoyed the ramble :) Been enjoying brighter shores too with around 80 hrs played so far 😅 I’ll be stopping when Leagues 5 starts for osrs, but I’m sure it’ll be nice to come back to all that afk exp (i’ll check in daily or whatever to collect)! Plus there will probably be some new content by then ❤

Thank you! I am very excited about leagues. I've played in every one, and I only normally end up playing a couple weeks, but it is incredible 2 weeks lol. I'm really hoping they add some kind of content that's an activity that you're not just doing for xp, like a mini-game or a boss. Seeing the first couple bosses where they have an extra mechanic is very interesting, and I'm curious to see what they do with it going forward.

The fact the skills and XP scale like this is actually so important for people to know. I felt as though this game is WAY TOO grindy because of the speed it takes to level up so early in the game, and then having the assumption it scaled in a similar way to Runescape. This is easily enough to cause people to say "this game isn't worth the time to play". Now with this video and information, its legit eye opening. If you can handle the grind from level 20 to level 70 in a skill. You can handle the grind from level 450 to level 500. You can gaige SUPER early, if this skill is going to be a pain to train overall. Maybe this will change over time as more content gets added, but I hope they keep this as a bare bone. XP rates can only really get faster with new content. Edit: I see that it 4x's at 200. So not as good as I thought, but the point does stand, just for 150 to 200 instead.

@@MCYodatheGIANT Exactly, it also adds so much to the end of grinding with a particular item. Know that you are going to go from 110 actions, back down to 80-89 will make that single level up feel very very nice.

I will still put it in the highest skill because it gives me the most XP per point, and the cost of XP increases with the level, but it's nice to see that otherwise it doesn't really matter. The only thing that really matters when choosing a skill is that you choose a skill that's within the region you're currently potted on, because yes it does work on them and give you 5% more. If you want to boost a skill in a region you're not currently in, it can be worth bringing a pot specifically for that region just so you can drink it before claiming your XP reward.

I really need to get into using those potions more. I haven't really done anything with them yet, because it's just a 5% boost, but that would definitely be good long term.

@@MCYodatheGIANT At the very least carry them around so you can pop them at 100% inspiration. Their value is debatable during normal activity but you'd be really missing out by not using them during an xp boost. (I tested, they don't work on quest rewards)

Alchemy at level 35 is not more AFK, Making Potent Potions requires a minigame in order not to fail making potions.

I think my only real gripe with this game is the combat skills, they're way too random and your level / gear feels borderline useless as the sheer range of damage rolls means even fights against targets 10 levels lower can still be a gamble. I feel like it'd be better if they just straight up halved the hp / xp rates of mobs so the fights are more consistent but time / reward remains similar

I know what you mean. I’m thinking about diving into the minutia of how combat works, because the most annoying part is sometimes I can consistently kill things, and sometimes I can’t, but it’s really hard to guess which will be the case.

After getting 20 carpentry I'm gonna AFK for a bit and seeing it's 5x increase to 20-21 than it was 19-20 seems a bit scary. Getting to 20 already felt like a bit of a grind, sure the knowledge points will help but still. I feel like this 32 carpentry limit just to get that teleport will already make the game more bearable like starting OSRS and getting full graceful or something

I'm putting my KP into alchemy because it seems like a more expensive and slow skill to train compared to the others and is reliant on other skills to train it without losing money. Also the higher levels potions seem more useful for the account overall

The first potent potion you unlock is profitable off of shop-bought materials so that might be the way to train the skill in a profitable and somewhat fast way without relying on other skills. The main difference though is that for potent potions you have to play a small minigame to brew the potions rather than being largely afk. I assume that pattern of being profitable would continue just given the effort it takes to make the potions though I'd still have to see some more to know for sure.

Cooking I find to be the best including doing the bounties. I put Xp into alchemy and when afk I do the alchemy money wealth task

Whats the fastest knowledge rate skill we know of? I've been cooking stew and its giving me about 20% per inventory, the craft itself feels quick if I pre-load vegetables.

I'm really not sure. I have heard people mention stew, and that is pretty fast. Combat feels fairly fast, with 3-4% per kill, but realistically that's probably about as quick as gathering skills.

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking, but KP always give 25% of the xp needed for the next level, until after level 200, then it's 6.25%.

It’s really up to you, but what I’m trying to do is just unlock the AFK methods I’m planning on using, and putting the rest into XP. It’s very helpful to have at least a couple AFK options

Depends how much you play. If youre logging in everyday and playing for 8+ hours then probably not but usually yeah the afk is free exp while you're gone. You don't give me no lifer vibes so Imma pretty firmly suggest you do grab the afks first, it's not a ton of exp but it's better then the 0 you're getting right now.

That was kind of the point of naming the video that lol, as technically knowledge scales with your level, but the point is that knowledge doesn't get worth more or less as you level up, it's always worth the same amount.

My only opinion is it may be beneficial to invest knowledge in skills that are cloae to an unlock since thats when it will take the most actions. Is there data on what skill is fastest for farming knowledge points?

I been doing the card= collection log. When click on a skill has the completed cards.Only lvl 437 been playing quite a bit but not constantly only skill im not a fan of is merchant its a running simulator.

The bonus on the first action is also definitely a nice incentive to do everything once. But yeah, also not loving the merchant skill. Trying to find a good path to run is mildly interesting, but the running is not. Maybe it won't be so bad with the update that you can run further on the minimap now though lol

so about knowledge when i reach level 200 and i spend the knowledge on that lvl 200 skill is it the same as spending it on lvl 30 ? at what point does it stop scaling ? so is always better to train other easier skills to level the skills that don't scale right ?

@ like guards when you reach past 200 it takes a long time to train. Like way longer. I saw a streamer reached 230 guard and it’s not easy to level. If my knowledge point will scale even at level 200. Then I should train other skill to level up guard

Well that's one of the things I mentioned in the video, you might want to prioritize slower skills if you're trying to maximize your time spent, and don't really mind training one skill over another. Main main point is the bit about knowledge giving giving a skill the same benefit whether it's level 20 or level 100
