Clams suck in all the micro organisms in the water and then filter the water they've sucked up - pretty sure they can filter 50L a day (well wild freshwater river clams can) so the opening and closing would be from the clam letting out all the water it's filtered (which will be 100% pure water). They have a tiny 'foot' that looks like a tongue or a slug, that they use to move around. They are the life force of their habitat. Remarkable creatures.

My dude! I'm glad to see you finally got some. I wanted them really bad for awhile & they've been my favorite ever since I finally found some. From my experience yours look like all females from what I just seen. I got my first batch of 7 at a really small size. They all looked very similar, one had just a tiny bit of red in its tail. That turned out to be a male. He grew into an absolute beauty. Personally I like the way the females look. Just pay attention to all the tails if you see a little bit of red in the middle of the tail then you have one ✌🏼 enjoy them

My favourite species hence my profile pic of one of my males. I’d be putting in lots of floating plants if you want babies to survive mate. Also swap that filter for a sponge filter as the babies are minute and will get sucked into that. But yeah heaps of floating plants and not to much flow at top and they will become self sufficient. I find the adults leave babies alone but the babies will predate on next generation but with lots of floating plants you’ll have a growing colony.

I would recommend you choose something other than a Betta sorority for that tank, it generally doesn't end well and isn't really worth the risk. It can work but there are factors that you can't control that make it more than likely to end badly, and is usually unnecessarily stressful for the fish If you wanna do it, go for it, but make sure you do lots of research and make sure you're aware of how difficult it can be to get it to work

With clams they have a big tongue which they use to dig under the sand to bury themselves or to move to new areas for feeding.

Clams are filter feeders, so he's just doing his filter thing to collect water and move it through. They also move by using their huge "tongue", though it's actually a "foot", unless they are swimming by using the power of the shell.

You ever consider setting up a reef tank? Its definitely much harder and you need to be more attentive, but youre a patient dude who always waits proper times to ensure perfection, i think youd do great with it. Of course small reef tanks are much harder than large tho, so these tank sizes are a bit small for a reef. I love my reef, you can fit alot more individual life inside them, and some of the creatures are amazing. I have both fresh & salt tanks, and the reefs add so much variety

What you received are 2 months old juveniles. Already sexualy mature However in pet shops they are often abused. Very poorly fed. They do not perform too well with dry food only, eating maybe half-full. So, much live food is being given, and often they succumb to deadly disease.

Hiya MD! I kept rocket killis for a while and lost a couple because they jumped out of the tank! So maybe make one of your snazzy lids for this tank too Also id recommend banana worms as food... Which are quite a good and easy to cultivate live food that you can keep multiplying and have pretty much a life time supply from one batch, if you haven't used them before :) (and you could make a video with the instant mashed potato process and inspire better fed fish everywhere :p ) But I read that they definitely prefer live food.

Yes the fish with coloured tails are males. I've had a few years of experience with these fish, I guess I can count myself lucky as my local fish store has them on a regular base for only 1 euro 50 a piece. Additionally I got mine to breed for the first time this week! Or at least as far as I know. According to my research they will do it without intervention if the parameters are right and you provide them with lots of floating plants and fluff plants like Javamoss. The babies should also be able to survive on food naturally found in the tank and between the floating plants. So it looks like they'll love some of those red root floters as well ;)
