You could mount a Landing Gear in the tracks right inbetween your foot pedals and the drive unit, and the new crossbar has gear track on top, which is where your fish finder could mount, centered. And you have the big handles in the back to wheel it around.

Just giving a heads up. A TEXAS Game Warden told me that the new Old Towns are considered motorboats. Now they must have a bow light (red/green) and they are still waiting on an opinion requiring a fire extinguisher. You must also have a sound device.
@MDLRFishing4 жыл бұрын
Not true. One should look up the law in Texas. It's considered a kayak and when registering it, one will find this out by vessel type description on their title.
@kweeks100454 жыл бұрын
When you add the trolling motor, it now becomes a motorboat. tpwd.texas.gov/fishboat/boat/owner/titles_and_registration/ All non-motorized canoes, kayaks, punts, rowboats, or rubber rafts (regardless of length) or other vessels under 14 feet in length when paddled, poled, oared, or windblown. Adding an outboard or trolling motor to one of these types requires titling and registration.
@kweeks100454 жыл бұрын
I’ll keep you posted on this one. I have contacted the head of the TPWD marine division and the attorney that assists in making such determinations. Hopefully they can shed some light on things. I kayak fish myself, and just want to get things cleared up to help me decide whether to consider the Old Town or look at other options. And maybe it will help save someone from a ticket too.

MDLR Fishing how’s yr kayak... does the battery last forever and does it go against up stream current fine?
@MDLRFishing4 жыл бұрын
The battery will do fine and last all day. But the downside is that you can only go at half speed. When going against the strong tidal currents here I lose one mph in speed. Top speed is 4 mph.
@juanmanuelmolina98184 жыл бұрын
What battery brand did you use?. I have using a motorized kayak over 7 years and love it. I’m not a fan with motors in the middle of your yak because the motor will hit bottom like you did . My motor is located in the bow and I can let it go on plane and I can get into very shallow water. I use a heavy lead battery which has never let me stranded. I fish from 7 am to 3:30 pm at 1/3 speed. Negative side is the weight plan on upgrading soon. I use odessy battery for my trolling motor. I have had three of theses batteries and been impressed with them except with their weight. Thanks, love ur videos. This technology is not new it’s been around awhile. Manufacturers are just jumping on the kayak wagon.

Marine Lithium Ion batteries oh yeah! A very hefty penny to buy, battery duration is excellent on my AUX battery I can run a fish finder, stereo (not blaring), LED lighting all at the same time 5hrs easy and still have more juice to go on before starting up the engine for a charge. I'm assuming I can go longer but I was scared I would damage the the battery. They range from $300 to the thousands depending how much AH you want. I put $1K dent on my piggy bank for 2 batteries, (1 main | 1 aux) pricey, no regrets worth every penny, lets say it's peace of mind knowing your engine will start all the time. For you kayak users with trolling motors I'm assuming you can go 10 miles easy, if you don't abuse it.
