Another awesome video! With this heat and strong winds I decided to target one of my flounder honey holes. I knew they would be hungry and was successful. I don't like to wait to set the hook because I hate to gut hook a dink fish so I set the hook as I feel the thump

My time for setting the hook depends on the size of lure i'm using. I also agree and don't like gut hooking the small ones.

@@MDLRFishing you are right, I've tried bigger lures and you do have to wait a bit for them to start eating... I've been have great luck with Outlaw Fishing Lures on hook ups targeting flounders

...Mark....thanks for the video....thoroughly enjoyed it....JMHO, with 25 years experience fishing for flounder on the Texas and Louisiana coast, you don't need to wait more than 5 seconds after the "thump" to set the hook (on your big girl, you didn't wait at all)....when you wait more than 5 seconds, you take the chance that the fish is gonna swallow the bait, and if it is undersized, well, it's gonna die when released...especially trout.....again, JMHO... 🙂

I agree, the lure that the big one hit was tiny in comparison to the first flounder. My decision to wait depends on the size of lure i'm using. Thanks for looking out! I appreciate the awareness for gut hooking our precious resources.

What I do and not one to tell u ur doing it worng cuz ur a really good fisherman… but when they grab it I’ll let out slack for about two seconds and then get the tention back and pop it once or twice makes them think the minnow is trying to get away so they’ll really smack it then I set the hook. Good video sir

My dad and I were in Christmas a couple weeks ago and had a hard time getting the flounder on the hook. We tried waiting long after feeling bumps but still couldn’t get them on the hook. Almost like they were just holding the tail in their mouths.

All those thumps you feel is the fish trying to disable the bait. He's not trying to swallow it. He only has the tail in his mouth. That's why your lure was cut in the middle. You have to downsize when there biting like that.
