from the album Ilana: The Creator
tinyurl.com/mdou-moctar-ilana
//
Born in a nomad camp in Niger and now a leading figure of desert rock, Mdou Moctar stands out as the most innovative artist in contemporary Saharan music. His unconventional interpretations of Tuareg guitar have pushed him to the forefront of a crowded scene. In contrast to polished “world music” fare, Mdou trades in unrelenting grit and has no qualms about going full shred.
A long time coming, “Ilana” is Mdou's first true studio album. Recorded in Detroit at the tail end of a US tour by engineer Chris Koltay (who met after bonding over ZZ Top's “Tres Hombres”), Mdou lived in studio for a week, playing into the early hours and accompanied by an all-star band: Ahmoudou Madassane's (Les Filles de Illighadad) lighting fast rhythm guitar, Aboubacar Mazawadje's machine gun drums, and Michael Coltun's structured low-end bass.
The result is Mdou's most ambitious record to date, taking tradition into into an ever louder and blistering direction. From the rock anthem “Tarhatazed,” to the Van Halen tapping of “Kamane Tarhanin,” “Ilana” stands amongst the greats of classic rock, albeit accidentally. "I don't know what rock is, I have no idea,” he says, “I only know how to play my style." Mdou Moctar

This would light up many festivals. I hope that Mdou can tour at least some of Europe, including France, to spread the word to the multitude who will listen, about the way the Western world has churned up Africa for profit.

same bro... so now that i have better english understanding i listen to this and music from Russia, Iceland (sigur ros), Turkish (she past away), and britain (COCTEAU TWINS) with that hard to understand english she even sing in french, so the feeling is the main thing that music communicates its more important meaning

He’s talking about the effect of colonialism.. in particular the French exploitation of indigenous Africans. “I want the world to understand that the women of the desert need help,” he told Stereogum. “They don’t have water to drink, there’s no medicine in the hospitals.” It’s neither bootstrapping origin stories nor rock’n’roll fantasies so much as the grim realities facing Moctar and millions of others around the world that give Ilana its considerable power.”

imagine them singing something hateful and worshiping satan Jokes aside, yes music isn't about lyrics tbh. I consider the voice just an other instrument could be lyrics or humming or whatever you call it the melody makes the music

No, because making mainstream music means dulling your sound to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Just keep an open mind and keep searching, there is plenty of good music out there.

Une vague légère, rythmée et inspirée d'une transe, celle du bienfait. Une mélopée, cotonnée sous la Fender et elle virevolte. Puis surviennent les joies de la conclusion, les riffs d'allégresse.
