ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL will be released in theaters on June 12, 2015!
Winner of the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL is the uniquely funny, moving story of Greg (Thomas Mann), a high school senior who is trying to blend in anonymously, avoiding deeper relationships as a survival strategy for navigating the social minefield that is teenage life. He even describes his constant companion Earl (RJ Cyler), with whom he makes short film parodies of classic movies, as more of a 'co-worker’ than a best friend. But when Greg’s mom (Connie Britton) insists he spend time with Rachel (Olivia Cooke) - a girl in his class who has just been diagnosed with cancer - he slowly discovers how worthwhile the true bonds of friendship can be.

Gripsaw87 very good question. I tend to think she was stopping treatment as a desperate act of hope that she would somehow get better since the treatment was just making her worse. on the one hand maybe she really was just tired of living in her state and wanted things to end faster. Greg really did believe she would make it though. I'm basing this off the movie btw, haven't read the book yet so I don't know if there are any major differences between the two.

I already made a previous comment -- its main character is a pretentious and pessimistic hipster, which ironically is a cliched personality in indie "style" films (im saying "style" cause it was distributed by Fox Searchlight Pics. which doesn't make it independent). Don't get me wrong, it's a good story. It was just difficult to watch, not cause of the intensity of the plot, cause within the first 5 mins. it already attempted to imitate Wes Anderson's cinematography (which has been copied by many) -- it distracts us from the socio-economic issues that really matter in this movie like wealth, race, and illness. Ex/ it is located in 2015 Pennsylvania (iPhones, twerking), though why were the Black people homogenous (talking the same, living in a separate community, violent...) compared to White people who were diversified (even the white guy who "rapped" was deemed as stereotypically violent). And I'm tired of white people and their heightened sophistication cause they eat "foreign" asian cuisine (father, teacher). Do Western people try that hard to be interesting?

Baa 123 You obviously don't know the difference between good films and bad ones. It's not always a matter of opinion to say something is "good" or "bad", especially with film. This wasn't a very good plot for a film, and that isn't an opinion. It's a very snotty and annoying trait that I see within teenagers these days backing up an argument with "duhrururu it's my opinion." Film is something you need to study before I can take you seriously in an argument, and I've already wasted enough time.

This is what makes this movie nice, it's not cliché even if some aspects of the movie are similar to another movie, what makes it unique is that this guy was an incredible friend and never went beyond the boundaries of friendship but it bloomed to something far more than love. He didn't do it for love, he did it for friendship and a movie like this really deserves to be a cult classic. He didn't say anything or confessed anything like a typical chick flick but it was so vivid and clear that this guy really had a thing for her. This movie shows that hope can be received from tragedy.

@@philippinevlogsandgamingpl7671 That's probably due to hormones and loneliness. Guys (especially lonely ones) have a habit of "falling for" any girl that gives them consistent attention and/or they can partially relate to. A such, they get confused feelings of the girl and their imagination goes off. I'm assuming that's what was going on with Greg. And that's why he was against these thoughts.

i hate it when people try comparing this to _tfios,_ because in my opinion it’s incomparable. _me and earl_ is compassionate, thoughtful, tender and witty, sad and happy, awkward and pure. it’s a work of art. it’s honest. it tells you the wild and beautiful reality of friendship. to me, _tfios_ was just a rather plain, boring book and a even plainer, more boring movie. _me and earl,_ on the other hand, was a revolutionary wonder. loved it so much ♡

yeah the fault in our stars was great don't get me wrong but _me and earl_ took my heart, threw it out the window, picked it back up and stitched it together, and then shattered it into a million pieces again. i'll always remember it because it was the first movie that ever made me cry. its eccentricity and uniqueness works its way into your heart and stays there. i love it so much.

Felt like a Wes Anderson movie. Amazing! The soundtrack is also just as great as the film. Although mainstream blockbusters can be great and entertaining, I feel that more people need to step back from those and watch these types of films instead because they give alot more than explosions or superheroes, they give relatable characters and morals, somethings we actually gain from and learn. Very great coming-of-age film. LOVED IT!

This movie felt raw and real in a way I didn’t expect. It’s like it avoided all of the tropes that glorify dying as a way to “really see the world” for the first time or something, and instead just gave us this kind of situation as it really is, sucky and hard and awkward and painful and everything else. Amazing movie.

I got to see an early showing of this movie and after seeing the trailer my initial thoughts were "aw cute" and "kind of looks like the fault in our stars" but after watching it I was amazed by how incredible and genius this film really was. No sappy romance story it's all just very real and pure and I could really feel a strong connection between the two main characters (greg & rachel) even more of a connection then I felt with Augustus and Hazel from the fault in our stars. Which is odd b/c there wasn't really any romance between Greg and Rachel but I guess that just goes to show how amazing the character development was in this movie. Everything about it I just loved and its definitely my new favorite movie I couldn't stop thinking about it after I watched it. I also got to meet the actors who played Greg, Rachel, and Earl which was beyond cool. Okay I didn't expect this comment to be so long but what I'm trying to say in a shortened version is I recommend it. Everyone go watch it when it comes out!
