He used to state that Maulidan is haram and bid'ah with no guidance from the Prophet Pbuh. People standing up to recite shalawat during Asyraqalan (Mahallul Qiyam) is bid'ah and it is excessive with no guidance from the Prophet Pbuh. This is not much different when Buya Hamka was young, he also firmly stated that Qunut in the morning prayer is a bid'ah with no guidance from the Prophet Muhammad Pbuh so that Buya Hamka never did Qunut in his morning prayer. However, when Buya Hamka was old, he was pleased to attend the Prophet's Maulid event when someone invited him. People were engrossed in reciting Maulid al-Barzanji and praying during Mahallul Qiyam, Buya Hamka was also engrossed and solemnly followed it. When he reached old age, he suddenly recited the Qunut prayer in his morning prayer. Then his students asked: "Buya Hamka, when you were young you were so strongly against such events, including reading Qunut in the morning prayer, but when you got old how come you changed?" Buya Hamka answered: "Yes, when I was young there was only one book. But after I studied many books, I realized that the knowledge of Islam is very broad. I used to read only one book but now I have read a thousand books." 😊 Assisted by a website: laduni.id
