I entered Stableview’s Oktoberfest horse trials weeks ago but the night before it was set to begin a category for hurricane devastated South Carolina with Aiken being one of the hardest hit communities. With no power or running water anywhere in the community, unsafe driving conditions (no signal lights, trees and powerlines across the road) I asked the venue if they would credit my entry fee toward their next event, but was denied. After days of hauling water buckets to the farm all day for the horses and humans and wrestling with generators, no Shower, I loaded my horse in the dark this morning to make a foggy hazardous trek to Stableview barely arriving in time to braid his mane and warm up for dressage at 8:30. The jumping phases were back to back with stadium serving as a warm-up for cross-country so I did both in cross-country attire. My 20 year-old little star Genius was game as ever and we finished on our dressage score 4th place in the open division. Made for a happy outcome and wouldn’t you know it when I got home the power was restored🥰❣️
