Call me a whiner, but how is that good game design? If I have to know how the boss works beforehand just to stand any sort of chance of surviving my first go-around, it feels more like a punishment for something I didn't even realize was a thing.
@rexailos4752 жыл бұрын
@@fictionfan0 you don’t have to know the bossfight beforehand rather than having a decently built team to win against him. It’s impressive because a lot of JRPGS just don’t give you the importance of buffs and debuffs until particularly difficult bosses which are secret and placed in very late game whereas the story almost plays itself. But the fact is Matador wasn’t in the first version of the game since he’s a Fiend, and the fiend fights are a difficult spike compared to original story bosses, which is why Matador is still matter of discussions every now and then. At its worst, trial and error was always a thing in videogames so why would that be bad game design if the boss doesn’t push you to abuse aspects that make the game boring but instead makes you focus on having a more complete team that makes you interact with every single element of the combat Nocturne offers you?

@walter41802 жыл бұрын
@@rift3487 Physical is objectively the best late-end game and begins to get very strong in mid game. What a lot of people do is few points in magic early, get some strong spells (the breath attacks are awesome) then transition into a focus+phys combo build come mid game (and ofc pump up strength, vit etc) Dunno the exact magatama you have but yea, strength + maybe some debuffs is optimal. Reason magic is so good is because the really good phys skills come into play quite a bit later on (being mid game) and strong magic is easier to obtain. If you want to, just search for some forum answers. There's tons in the SMT community talking about phys/mag builds.

Seeing how this video suddenly blew up, here is some context for those who are interested. This was my first mainline Shin Megoomi Tensay game. I never was a turn based-RPG kinda guy but when P4G was released in Steam something clicked in me and started playing more of the genre. At this point, I had already played P3, P4G, DDS1, DDS2 and some other non-Atlus RPGs, so, considering that at the time the SMT3 remaster had just released, the logical conclusion was to play that. I knew boneboy was coming due to the memes but I had no idea when nor what his schtick was. If I remember correctly, there's a prompt in the game that warns you about an ominous precense, but I never would have thought that after taking just a couple of steps after that warning I would be thrown into battle. This video is how that first battle turned out. I was pretty unprepared. I was not at full HP, had no suku skills and most of my demons were weak to force, so him tearing me a new asshole was no surprise. I found it pretty funny so I recorded it and uploaded it here. After that I fused some better demons and beat him on the third try.

I am honestly surprised your punch at the end even landed. when I first fought him I didn't die as fast, but I also couldn't land a hit on him with his evasion maxed out having no agility debuffs. I love how the Matador Boss just acts as the one big Obstacle that you have to overcome in order to experience the rest of the Game. A 'Casual Filter' in a sense even, if you will... It forces you to learn how to play the Game really, if you hadn't already by that point. Namely by showing the importance of Buffs/Debuffs, and your party composition (i.e: Resistances/Weaknesses etc.). I remember dropping this Game for months afterwards (granted after playing for several hours in one sitting by that point so it was probably more boredom than anything) before finally coming back more recently to beat him in a clutch. I knew I could do it, albeit with more preparation, I just didn't feel like it at the time. But when I finally did it unironically felt pretty amazing, and now (because I feel like I finally get to experience the rest of it) I'm playing the Game more often at this point, albeit more on/off this time and taking my time with it a little more. SMT Nocturne definitely feels like one of those Games that takes a while to truly get going, but when it does it's a really good game imho. Moral of the Story: When faced with the Toughest of Obstacles, you should always persevere until the very end.

When it came to beating this boss last night I had a pretty good team. I was level 23 and had: - Ame-No-Uzume - Momunofu - Take-Minekata My stupid ass had Shiranui, the Magatama with FORCE WEAKNESS. I was hit hard constantly but thankfully Ame-No-Usume had force block, making Matador's turn instantly end. She was fused with High Pixie (the OG pixie so she's not gone forever) and Archangel. The debuffs and buffs from her helped too! Thankfully Take-Minekata also had debuffs and buffs from the Shikigami and Lillim I fused together. It was funny seeing such a powerful demon have a shit-ton of debuffs. I had to heal him a few times but he was fine Now Momunofu is actually the real fucking MVP... because Momun had BRIGHT MIGHT thanks to the Bicorn and Kodama... Or was it a Bicorn and a Hua-Po? Who knows. The reason why Bright Might was so good was because normal attacks always turn into critical hits on a Full Moon. Momunofu helped me get one consistent extra turn each time he hit Matador. Anyways my strategy was to constantly debuff Matador with me and Uzume, then Minekata would increase physical attack and hit chance, and Momunofu looked pretty just hitting Matador for increasing increments of 100 damage. So what if I was weak to Mazan? MOMUNOFU WAS MY MVP, I LOVE HIM This game is so fucking awesome it lets me experiment and fuck around with silly strategies. I thought I was fucking toasted but my ass was saved by my own quick thinking.
