I see “some” comments from the Cambodian people both in KZbin and other places claim that some Thai celebrities like Tony Jaa, Bua Khaw and Lisa are Cambodian and there are many Cambodian Ancient Temples in the Thailand. For the temples, it is true that they were built when the Khmer Empire had the power and influence covered the area which is part of Cambodia and some parts of Thailand, Laos and Vietnam today, but it should not be claimed to be the heritage of only one nation. Since there had been a cultural exchange in the region for very long time, it should be the “Regional Culture” instead. (For non ASEAN audiences, there are many discussions about the cultural issues in the region. Actually, many issues cannot be concluded that something should be the heritage of only one nation since many aspects of the culture of Southeast Asian nations are similar.) For these celebrities' background, it is true that they may have a Khmer descent, by the way, as they were born and grew up in Thailand, under Thai jurisdiction and Thai sovereignty, they are absolutely Thai, whether what descents they have. (There is no “True Thai” descent, Thai people are the people descended from many ethnic groups, Mon, Khmer, Chinese etc., who share the same culture and language.) The reason why I said that they may have the Khmer descent is they were born in Southern Isan provinces. These provinces, Buriram, Surin, Sisaket and some part of Ubon Ratchathani, shares the border with Cambodia and there are many Khmer speaking communities in these provinces. There are also the Suay or Kuy People, the ancient ethnic group who are well known as the ethnic group of the Mahout or the elephant caretaker. They have a unique language. They may descended from the Kuy too. I’m not sure if they can Khmer, Northern Khmer or Surin Khmer dialect or Kuy since some of them moved to Bangkok at very young age. I guess that they may know some but cannot speak. That’s not strange since both Khmer and Kuy have fewer speakers today, most of the speakers are elders while the youngers tend to speak Isan or Thai language. (Most of the Northeastern Thailand or “อีสาน Isan” shares the border with Laos and the majority of the region speak Isan dialect which is similar to Lao Language, also with these provinces or “อีสานใต้ Isan Tai (Southern Isan)”, but Southern Isan also has Khmer and Kuy speaking communities.)
