As we work with our clients to build an understanding of their business needs, we collaborate with them and evolve their new building design to match the innovation they seek. This collaboration played out in the design of this project, Meadowstar Dairy for our client, Riverview LLP, in 882,000 sq. ft. dedicated to the business of dairy.

What always get to me is the amount of negativity from everyone watching these videos if you always gonna be negative don't watch it that's the first thing secondly what makes me wonder about the negatives is they still buy the dairy products and will always be the first to complain if there is nothing available.

From Minnesota ,how do you deal with snow on the roof ?
@crazyhass84
@crazyhass84 7 жыл бұрын
roof doesn't look very steep... especially for Minnesota! how does it handle the snow loads?! What is the advantage of 1 massive barn vs just 2 beside each other? Look at the 30 massive fans they had to add at the end of the barn to help with air flow.
@bobaganooshy

Andy Hass these barns are cross ventilated, one entire side of the barn is solid fans, much easier to keep cool

Andy Hass. i wouldnt worry to much about snow if i had 8500 cows below.. they make a ton of heat. melting the snow. hehe. but with all that roof area i wounder why they dont use solar panels on the roof making the fans run when its summer and hot.

Impressive scale of set up. Sadly however, it's these mega-dairies and feedlot beef enterprises that are giving weight to the movement toward plant based agenda. The marketing coming out of the likes of Oatly is seriously questionable, and the health and environmental claims are concerning given the reality of plant based "milk" products. Dairy has it's place, and the scale is only required for the business to be sustainable/profitable. The welfare concerns are solely the responsibility of the supermarkets, having used milk as a footfall driver and made it a race to the bottom which can only be countered by scale. Consumers should get themselves informed, and the campaigns should be geared toward increasing milk price at the farm gate so operations don't need to run at this scale and have AYR housed livestock. Again - impressive set up, but these operations have their days numbered and are self defeating fuelling the consumer image concerns for the sector. Real shame.

But it wouldn't really work if we went back to the higher prices. Imagine farms like these having twice the price for their milk. They would either become millionaires or buy up even more farms. I think it's hard to go back to how it was before
@davidw4970
@davidw4970 3 жыл бұрын
@@oscarjohansson79 Certainly presents a challenge Oscar. Would be consumer driven, so a stocking cap would work well. Max. 250 milking +dry/follower as a welfare standard. (?) I wouldn’t see the large setups remaining, driven out/back to size to sit at/under a max herd cap. Sounds backwards, but may we’ll be the only safeguard long term for dairy (liquid milk rather than cheese/products markets),

The machine sucks up all of the manure, and takes it to a separator, that separates the liquid from the solids. The solids are then reused as bedding for the cows. The liquid is stored in lagoons and neighboring farmers use it on their crops.

What is the environment like for those animals are they happy do they have the ability to free roam. I believe that a free roam cow is a happy cow.

People will look at this factory farm and complain it’s not natural etc etc. The harsh reality is consumers want to pay less and less and less for their food so the market produces it for less this is what the consumer wants. You won’t pay for a small family farm where cows graze green grass therefore stop whining when farmers adapt and scale up into big business to survive. If you really care about how your food is produced be it high welfare,family farm set ups, grazing cows or whatever go and PAY FOR IT, otherwise just keep quiet and thank a farmer that puts food on you’re table at a relative low cost.

@@deannelson9565 If you actually worked with cows, you would not have given the comment. First off, if they are confined to the inside, you have a better way of controlling the environment. Keeping flies and flees off them, keeping them cool in the summer out of the hot sun, and keep them from freezing in the winter. You need to get educated more.
